johnf
I was watching the news last night and one of the storys was about FEMA turning off peoples electricity. This peaked my interest to see why fema woud do this. The meat of the story is this. The people in question settled in Pine Bluff AR after being displaced by Katrina. They have been there for 6 months and have had free housing, utilities and food stamps. I don't know about you guys, but if I had 6 months of living free, I could save some pretty serious cash. This guy, probibly about 40 years old, was crying and carrying on about FEMA kicking him out of his house and shutting his light out. Fema will continue his assistance if he gets a job that will make enough money for him to pay one (yes only one) of his utilities. This guy lives in a state that has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country and he hasn't gotten a job in 6 months. That just gripes my butt. If you get a regular paycheck look on the stub and find that part that says FICA. That's this guys paycheck you're looking at when you see that. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of people who legitimately need assistance, and I don't have a problem with that at all. What I do have a problem with is an able bodied lazy sponge who just wants a free handout and want me to feel sorry for him when it gets taken away from him. Reloader
Re: This really gripes my butt!! Your not the only one... Legit need...Great lets help... Lazy, and "stealing"aid money...cut you off...permanantly, not just till he can pay part... Can he prove he was even looking for a job? I doubt it but if he was legitimately looking, then asking him to only pay part is a good thing but if he hasn't even been looking then he should just get cut off period. Newarcher
Re: This really gripes my butt!! We here in Atlanta have our share of "victims" who are taking up hotel rooms here. The owners, want them out but they don't want to leave. They have spent 6 months doing the very things they did a lifetime of in New Orleans....leaching off the system. They have made absolutely no effort to secure jobs or places to live. They are the stuff that the scum from the bottom of the barrel feeds on, IMHO. huntinsonovagun
Re: This really gripes my butt!! Some people Unfortunatly I think the hurricane hit one of the worse places it could have. Sounds bad, but I think there are a lot of people from that area that want a free ride and are willing to take advantage of it.
Master_Chief
Re: This really gripes my butt!! I am so tired of supporting people that won't support themselves. My boss was on several rescue missions in LA and the predominant question he was asked when his team flew in was "Where is my check"? They would not leave they just wanted their check. Disgusting. wtnhunt
Re: This really gripes my butt!! Too many people out there with no ambition. They will continue to take advantage of the "system" as long as they can. Personally, I think 6 months is more than enough time to get something established.
