well, i just called around to a few fire arms dealers in the area to buy my dad a winchester 30-30 before they outsource in a few days.....a $300 gun a month ago, now selling EVERYWHERE for $1100!!!!! What a fricking joke.....i can tell you that i won't buy anything with the winchester logo on it EVER EVER EVER EVER again.......all because of greed........they screwed over the employees and the consumer....proud to say that i will not be buying winchester.

Re: Who Else Is Not Thrilled?????

i just heard that winchester sent out letters declaring the price increase.....that was my question....if they had the guns already in stock before the annoucement why couldn't they sell them at the "regular" price......evidently they raised the prices on any in stock and new....that is hear say, but not off the wall....

Re: Who Else Is Not Thrilled?????

That is bogus...no company is going to issue a "price increase" on guns they have already sold...I checked all the Winchester press relaeases and called my local gunshop and clarified that they are still selling them at the normal price of $300 to $350. All Winchester did was close the factory and state that there are no plans to move the guns exclusively buit at that factory to overseas factories, thus ending production of the Model 70 bolt, Model 94 Lever and Model 1300 Pump shotgun. A great loss to be sure, however they are not the ones changing the price on you.

guys i talked to said prices increased over a month ago....the outsourcing upsets me the most...which is why i won't purchase their products, firearms, clothing, ammo , whatever....

There are 2 companies using the Winchester name...DON'T CONFUSE THEM! Olin Corp. makes the Ammo and clothing lines. Herstal Group makes the guns!

The ammo and clothing lines are not made by the same company that closed the factory. Olin is the company that owns Winchester Amunition and at one time owned the Gunworks as well. They sold the gun manufacture rights and the factory to USRAC (US Repeating Arms Co.) who in turn was bought out by Herstal, a Belgian company that also owns Browning. Since Winchester's Model 70 and 94 guns are a direct competitor to Browning's, A-bolt and BLR respectively, the company is discontinuing the Winchester guns to limit the competition on the Brownings which are cheaper to make and have a higher profit margin. They will not come out and say that but they do say the decision to not transfer those popular lines to other factories was a "financial" one...you read between the lines...

Olin still owns the Winchester Amunition and Clothing rights and remains a strong company. In 2007 Herstal will lose its rights to the Winchester name and it will revert entirely back to Olin...the question being do they want it back or will they renew the license just to keep this whole disaster out of their hands...

Re: Who Else Is Not Thrilled?????

I don't see USRA doing the price gouging, more like the distributors or retailers. Even so, you are ticked off because you procrastinated and now that its the last minute, the price goes up. I guess you gambled that distributors would discontinue them and sell them cheap. It was a coin toss and it came up the other way. They are still out there and available for moderate prices if you want one bad enough to hunt one down. If you feel the need to boycot Winchester products based on what USRA did, that is your perogative. Its just called business.

It isn't Winchester you should be mad at there...those gun shops already paid winchester for those guns long ago at the $300 price...the shop is just getting greedy and scaming off the news that the gunworks are closing.

A shame they will gouge their customers like this.

Interestingly, the wholesale companies are blowing them out for rock bottom prices. I've bought several Win's for customers over the last couple months at much cheaper prices than normal. I would shop a little more if your interested in a Winchester.

I was in Gander Mtn. today and in the gun dept. they have a rack of Winchesters with a sign saying "Get 'em while you can." The prices for the Model 70's were $749 to $849, right around the MSRP. In my experience, Gander Mtn. prices are usually a good bit less than MSRP.

Re: Who Else Is Not Thrilled?????

Save yourself the hassel of overpaying for a current production Winchester 94........that in NO WAY is worth $1000. Go out & buy a Marlin 30-30. It is a nicer rifle anyway.

I bought a current production M70 300 win mag just before the prices went North......And I will say this. It was the WORST quality I have seen from a domestic manufacturer. Lucky I wanted it just for the action. I will have a custom 375HH made from it.

There is NO WAY that rifle would have been worth a premium price.
