Staying put

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, we're planning on doing a quick hunt in the morning before school...say we happend to call one in and shoot it, should we stay put and see if another comes in, or is that a waste of time?

How long after the shot should we stay?

Also, we're planning on making some longer stands tomorrow...probably 30 minutes.

One more- We've been doing a cottontail distress and then adding some barks/howls after 10 minutes or so with no action...should we continue this, or try another type of sequence?

Thanks!!!

Re: Staying put

Staying put after the shot is definitely a call you have to make after the shot. If you saw more than one dog, then stay put because they most likely didn't go far after the shot. Maybe after shot start some ki-yi's or pup distress. Should work.

As for the distress then howling, to me, it depends on when the last time I hunted the area using that tactic was. If you hunted same exact area using that same exact sequence, either move to a different spot or change your sequence. Just my opinion.
