hoyt_hunter
Re: U.S. Debt......... we've discussed this subject in American Government and find it to be quite a problem. Getting to be ridiculous, like not many people care about it. Ross Perot may have been a little crazy but at least he was going to do something about the debt. muggs
Re: U.S. Debt......... this is the most overrated topic ever. Believe me...we'll never have to pay this...not like anyone is going to come collecting...not while we're the #1 military power in the world anyway. Master_Chief
Re: U.S. Debt......... Have to agree with Muggs on this one. Who has that money, who do we really owe it to, etc... I think it is a ploy by politicians (On both sides) to get the general public all worked up. Just my $.02 Which by the way is not much compared to that clock. David_218
Re: U.S. Debt......... I am old enough to remember the USA as being a CREDITOR Nation and NOT a DEBITOR nation, like it is presently. If theis trend of debts continue, we stand to loose a lot!!! We need to get back to a "Value Added Economy" FAST!
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: U.S. Debt......... Well, the answer is really quite simple. Just cut back on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid spending. Those programs are by far the largest drain on the Federal Budget. Oh, BTW. That isn't my opinion, it's from a report by the Congressional Budget Office.
muggs
Re: U.S. Debt......... The only thing it really compromises is what other countries can demand of us. Like the Chinese being contracted to handle inspecting for radioactive material within our import/export containers. Or like the Arabs nearly being contracted for our port inspection. Bottomline, China and a few other countries own us, like it or not. But this is more an issue of our corporations investing overseas, and the amount of money American's spend on foreign goods. Those are the real issues that are effecting our economy/ nation. Like MC said, throwing these statements around like "oh my God, we owe trillions" is just a ploy to control the herd. I have been hearing this as long as I can remember. It's the old tatic...scare tatics...keep us in fear and we'll consume...we won't stop to question. buy these jeans or you won't be cool, buy this car or you won't look classy...dye your hair or you won't be attractive...it's along the same line as this sorta thing. I think the best thing for us all to do, would be to take a 12 lbs. sledge to our T.V.'s...we'd be better off.

muggs
Re: U.S. Debt......... I don't think we ever really sat down and ask what type of A.P.R. China could get us...but there's plenty of U.S. dollars supporting that economy.

Master_Chief
Re: U.S. Debt......... Thinking this over some more I think we can gain alot of it back from within our borders. Nowhere does it say the Federal Gov't is reponsible for taking care of the everyda Joe. Get out of the motels after Katrina. Need something from the Gov't get a job application. We are spending entirely to much money supporting those who won't help themselves.

[/ QUOTE ] "those who won't help themselves" is where too much money has and is coninuing to go. A little off the subject, but I still wonder what ever happened to Clintons idea of putting time limits on welfare and other governmental assistance programs. I could swear in one of his terms, thinking it was right before his run for re-election, I remember Clinton promised the American people that he was going to put limits on the length of time those who were down on their luck could draw benes off the taxpayers. That was one thing I actually agreed with the man on, and of course it never happened.

Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: U.S. Debt......... In point of fact, as much as most didn't like him, the national debt was shrinking during the Clinton Administration. Geroge II has made the biggest contibution to the national Debt of any President. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: U.S. Debt......... True there was a reduction in the national debt during the 90's, but that wasn't due to any particularly frugal fiscal policies. It was due to a tremendous influx of revenue to the treasurey from a booming economy AND an unprecedented low interest rate for financing the national debt.
