That stinks! (Problem with my F150)

I just got back from lunch. I used the remote to lock my truck and then decided to walk around the truck to get my lunch from the passenger seat.

I tried my remote again but it didnt work. It acted like the battery in my truck was dead. The lock would just wiggle and that was it. I unlocked the door with the key and grabbed my lunch. I hit the lock button on the remote again but nadda....

I then hit the lock switch on the door, nadda. I had to lock it by hand! I went back to the passenger side and unlocked it with the key again. The remote nor the switch in the door will lock or unlock the truck! It will move the locks a couple of times and then it wont do anything! I wanted to eat so I locked it again by hand. I hit the alarm while I was walking off and it armed. Im guessing there is a sensor, or node or something that tells it to unlock and lock both doors. Im afraid its going out!

The contacts for the switch in the door get corroded, especially if they have ever been wet or are in a humid area. Check your batteries, but if that doesn't fix it, you should be able to pop off the the locking button and wxpose the switch, a little emery cloth and a few minutes, you should be back in business.

Actually it isnt the battery! I checked the remote but read above, the lock button on teh door wont even rock the latch. It totally has to be done with a key.

At first I thought, "Oh no! Truck Altenator!" Its not. The truck fired and ran like a champ. When I trigger the lock switch or the remote you can hear a clicking in the dash ive never heard. Thats why I figured it was a control that ran both doors?!

Sounds like the relay is stuck ... shouldnt be that major to get that fixed if you can pinpoint where the clicking is you can usually rap the relay with a screwdrvier and it will sometimes come undone ...

Yep, I think youre right. The only thing is the locks work if the truck is running for more then a few minutes. After you lock and unlock the truck a couple of times it quits again. Im wondering if its getting hot, not making the connection, etc. Im calling Autozone in the morning and getting a price on one. Its behind the dash and hard to get to. If I have to tear into that puppy I might as well change it while im there.

Now your talking!! As a matter of fact, I had to tow a Ram 250 home just last week with that Chevy Vortec power!! The old Dodge couldnt quite make her home so the Chevy showed her the way the last 20 miles or so. cool.gif
