Canadian_Goose
When my girlfriend asked me what animal I respected the most she was shocked to hear that it was not a lion or eagle, but rather the whitetail deer. She said "How can you respect something that you kill". I paused for a second then explained that I believe out of the majority of the population, hunters comprise most of the understanding group. They not only know how ADT cannnot compare to the nose and ears of a whitetail. They know how an old buck will be happy to spend his nights walking and days sleeping in a willow bluff, completely undetected. How that same buck will loop around before he settles, how he knows the human scent, outline and voice. How the intinctively dodge arrows and dissapear like ghosts. Only a hunter (an ethical hunter at that), can experience the true intamancy required to properly respect the whitetail deer. Some wildlife biologists and photographers probably fall under this classification as well but as far as the general public goes, no way. I think i have to pay my dues to the predators that bring these animals down without guns or bows. Animals like wolfs and cougars are truly exceptional in my eye too. A shame so many people really make ignorant pre judgements on hunters as a group based on what some slobs or unethical idiots do.
Doc
Re: Respect How could you not have the highest level of respect for an animal that is so adept at eluding us. It's like a lot of other things in life. You have the most respect for the adversaries that pose the biggest challenge. Doc
Hoosierbuck
Re: Respect This is a big part of the reason it pains me so much to see any deer dead in the ditch-they deserve better, and the meat that is going to waste. Makes me much more upset that most people I know.
