Strut10
Re: the hardest call The thin mouth call without a lot of cuts in the top reed will kee-kee the best for you. I sort of tilt the call a little sideways in my mouth and put more tongue pressure on one side of the call so my air goes across the other side. As always, bring the air with your belly muscles. Lumpy
Re: the hardest call Any doubled reeded or triple reeded mouth call that dose'nt have any cuts should work. To run the kee-kee run I say the words" pee pee pee"( with out using your voice) raising in pitch and volume with each note. It will take some practice, but is a good call to learn. I used it in the fall as well as the spring. Good luck.
Strut10
Re: the hardest call [ QUOTE ] I would love to have a friction call ie. slate, glass, alumnium,or crystal that would make the kee kee. Does anyone make or know of a builder that makes a call that will kee kee? [/ QUOTE ] With a bit of practice, it's pretty easy to kee-kee on a good slate or glass with the right striker. Takes some practicing........that's all. A fellow by the name of Marlin Watkins from Ohio makes the most awesome boxcall to kee-kee with. Yep...........boxcall. I've got a couple of them. One in particular made from Claro walnut will plain scream!! They run right around $100. I can get you in contact with him if you're interested. Strut10
Re: the hardest call [ QUOTE ] What kind of striker works for you?? [/ QUOTE ] Almost always, I use a purpleheart or laminated striker. [ QUOTE ] I have a claro walnut call made by Marlin Watkins but mine doesn't scream. [/ QUOTE ] What style is the box? The Watkins boxes that will kee-kee like nuts are his "scaled down" Cost-style boxes. They look like a Neil Cost box. But they are a bit shorter, narrower and have a thinner paddle and soundboards. Strut10
Re: the hardest call The easiest way to do a kee kee with zero practice is to go buy a plastic dog-training whistle. Dig the little cork ball out and away you go!! You won't be able to do the yelps before or after (what some call the "run"). But, generally, you don't need to do that anyway. A fall flock that's been well "busted" is pretty simple to call back in and shoot. Even just by whistling "kee-kee-kee" with your lips will work a lot of the time. Just doesn't have quite the volume.
