stick
This might sound stupid, but is it alright to shoot the Heavyshot through my Stoeger 2000. I like the load but dont want to mess up my gun. Thanks
AJ
Re: HEAVYSHOT? Yep, you will be just fine. You can shoot it through tight turkey chokes also. The nickel in the material makes it more fluid than most of the non toxic shot options.

stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? I finally got time to pattern my gun. The shells were 3" ,1 1/2 oz. shot, #4 heavy shot. First pic was 20 yards, then 30, then 40. I was happy with the results.
AJ
Re: HEAVYSHOT? What choke are you using? That pattern does not look very good at 40 yards. You are either under chokes or over choked.
stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? that was with full choke, I tried 3 other shells with a modified choke also and those three were the best, I just wont shoot over 30 yards.
stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? What should I do to make it better? I'm shooting a stoeger 2000 w/a 28" barrell, full choke.
AJ
Re: HEAVYSHOT? I shoot a .660" choke tube for turkeys when I use Hevi Shot. Its an extra full. I would test the XFT - Extended Full Turkey choke that should have come with your gun. It will not damage the barrel or choke tube to use Hevi Shot with the extra full. stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? The full was the only one that came with my gun, but I have a week to find a better one and friday I will have a couple of hours to shoot at the range. Thanks
Tominator
Re: HEAVYSHOT? I'd be looking for a tighter choke. Not too many hits there, or call them close.
too_pointer
Re: HEAVYSHOT? I agree, an x-tra tight choke should give you many more hits at 40 yards. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to shoot better patterns even past 40 yards. too_
stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? well I went to 4 different stores today and found only one choke tube that would fit my gun. The undertaker was the only one I could find, and it says only to shoot lead or copper shot through it so I got three different shells 2 federal flight control and 1 winchestermag turkey load, I will fire them first chance I get, but probably on friday, thanks for the advice. LifeNRA
Re: HEAVYSHOT? Did they have the Undertaker H.S.? The H.S. stands for Hevi-shot. Why #4's? Try some 6's! More shot in each shell! Plus you can still get Hevi-shot or Federal Heavy weight in #6's. I would certainly try other sizes as well! Because you could get great results from the choke you already have in your gun with the smaller size shot!
too_pointer
Re: HEAVYSHOT? stick, did you happen to ask anyone at the store if you could shoot hevi-shot in the undertaker you saw, I bet you can with no problems. Like AJ stated, hevi-shot is pretty fluid Many chokes are fine out in the stores, they add on hevi-shot, and charge more $$ on them too_
borch
Re: HEAVYSHOT? Stick, I have the stoeger 2000 and have had great results with the Comp n choke XXXfull paired with the Federal FC #5 shot. Stoeger uses the berretta/benelli choke system. I plan to throw some Fed HW through the full choke if I can find some of their #7 shot loads. I may also use the Win ext range in my Comp n choke if I have time.
stick
Re: HEAVYSHOT? The reason that I have been using #4s is that, that is all I can find in the 3". I have seen #5, and #6 in 2 3/4" and 3 1/2", but all I have seen in the gun shops in 3" is #4's. I am going to the city next monday and I could go to bass pro, But hopefully I will already have tagged two birds.
