Guest Colorado Bob
I'm going to TX in a couple weeks for a hog & Rio turkey hunt . My question is what size pig should I be looking for? Thinking of the best eatin size? And what size to they become shoe leather? CB
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Hog Question Boars I usually don't bother with trying to butcher if they're over 100 lbs or so. Sows I'll go up to about 200. Some people eat the bigger ones, but I think they get tough and gamey tasting. By all means, kill as many as you can if the landowner will let you. We have way too many down here.

jdickey
Re: Hog Question Yeah... most of us around here prefer those piggies around 100 lbs.... so much easier to handle and better eating! Fleas have been extremely bad, so take precautions when skinning those piggies.... otherwise you'll come away scratchin and just might step on one of those RATTLEBUGS too. Turkeys have plentiful in certain parts of the state. The rains are starting to come thru now too, so that should get the birds stirred up looking for bugs! And.... when talking to those birds... always... always.. look around before you sit down! You just might be getting up.... faster than you got down!
