Texan_Til_I_Die
At long last, after months of delays and political side steps, the Democrat Party has released it's proposed agenda for the upcoming election year. Here it is in a nutshell: Eliminate Osama bin Laden; destroy al Qaeda; finish the job in Afghanistan; increase human-intelligence capabilities; eliminate terrorist breeding grounds; transition to full Iraqi sovereignty and promote stability in the region; increase investment in military manpower; implement the remaining 9/11 Commission recommendations; secure the nation's ports; and eliminate dependence on foreign sources of energy by encouraging the use of alternative fuel sources. Sound familiar? All of these are things that have been implemented or proposed by the Bush Administration or the Congressional Republicans, and have been fought against and delayed by the Democrat leadership. I was really hoping for something that would offer voters a clear distinction between the parties this time around. I guess they've decided the Republicans have a winning agenda after all, so they might as well just copy it.

oldksnarc
Re: Me Too, Me Too!!! So, they’ve finally agreed they’ve been wrong all these years? Now they’re finally willing to change their whole platform? Eliminate Osama bin Laden – Clinton had first shot at him and declined; destroy al Qaeda – see above; finish the job in Afghanistan – sounds like it’s going pretty good now, what can they do different/better?; increase human-intelligence capabilities – Clinton and dems were the ones who ravaged (raped) the intelligence community to begin with; eliminate terrorist breeding grounds – Clinton’s plan was to fire a dozen Cruise missiles into the middle of the desert and say “that’ll teach you!” transition to full Iraqi sovereignty and promote stability in the region – and that’s different from the current plan? increase investment in military manpower – again, Clinton and the dems downgraded our military to the point we’ve had to spend billions to get back to a ready force implement the remaining 9/11 Commission recommendations – 9/11 may not have happened if Clinton and dems had been this aggressive in the beginning. Wasn’t the first WTC bombing in 1993 and what was there response to it (the Cruise missiles); secure the nation's ports – how?; eliminate dependence on foreign sources of energy by encouraging the use of alternative fuel sources – now there’s an original idea. The only difference between their “then” platform and President Bush’s git-r-dun platform is the cost. Clinton and the dems downsized and saved billions – but at what cost? slugshooter
Re: Me Too, Me Too!!! The problem isn't with the message but in how it gets done. I don't think the Democratic party has in any way disagreed with needing to get rid of Osama Bin Laden and promote stability in Afghanistan etc. etc. etc. What they had a problem with is the way the Bush Administration has gone about it. What is the Bush Admin's current plan? Sometimes I am not sure they even know. Will the Democrats plan be any better, who knows? Oh, and if there is a need to blame Clinton for 9/11 even though Bush had been in office for 8 months, then Bush Sr. must be blamed for the first WTC bombing in 1993, Clinton had been President for 3 months I believe. Or we could go ahead and blame Reagan and 12 consecutive years of Republican leadership. Blaming this or that president doesn't get anything accomplished. The fact is, there were other foreign intelligence agencies that had information that could have prevented 9/11 as well as our own, the problem was not in the administration, but in the different agencies not wanting to work together for a common purpose. Bureaucracy at it's finest.
stevebeilgard
Re: Me Too, Me Too!!! notice the hugh lack of a plan in the democrats proposal? it's the old "trust us" plan. i just don't know why liberals haven't caught on to the fact that the old plays just don't fool the folks today.
