Turkeygirl
Re: thoughts please I'm so sorry sureshot! What a tough thing to do! I'm almost in tears reading your post. You did the right thing and I wish more people were like you in that sense. I hate to see animals suffering, but I don't know if I could have the courage to go out and end the suffering of one of my animals like that. I thank you and I'm sure your dog thanks you for thinking of her first.

Dakota
Re: thoughts please I am so sorry for your loss, sureshot. We've had to put two of our Schnauzers down within two years. I know it hurts, but it was for the best and she's content in the arms of Christ Jesus right now! I'm so sorry! gobbler
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: thoughts please I just got in the house from taking my dog for a walk. Sorry to hear it----but it's part of the deal we make when we get them as puppies. We will feed & take care of them-----when it's time we will do the right thing. The dog in return gives us unconditional love & loyalty. I think we get the better end of the deal. But if your a dog person----start looking for another pup. Hoosierbuck
Re: thoughts please Sometimes the right thing is the hardest thing. That took a lot of love to put her before your own feelings. She needed you to do that, and you stepped up, not taking the easy way out. God commanded us to be stewards of the animals, and to lovingly end suffering is a part of the deal. beagleboy
Re: thoughts please Sorry to hear about the loss. I faced a similar situation 3 years ago when one of my hunting beagles was suffering so much. She would cry all night until my wife called me at work and said that she was rattling the dog kennel, crying and barking that I told her to leave the house so that when I got home I was going to put her down myself, but God stepped in and took her before I got home. It's a great loss but time does heal all.
buckee
Re: thoughts please I know exactly how bad you feel Bret. I had the unpleasant task of putting down my daughters cat quite a few years ago. I felt like I just commited murder. Funny how hunting doesn't bother us, and yet putting down a pet is just heart wrenching, especially if you have to do the dead yourself. Don't be too hard on yourself bud. Somebody had to do it. Dakota
Re: thoughts please they really are like kids. [/ QUOTE ] That they are. My dad will say the names of all the dogs we've had, saying "Bigs, Willy, Connie, Sammy, Dakota (my name), YOU KID!" It's hilarious! I think he gets it from my grandpa 'cause my dad had seven siblings, and sometimes you get frustrated enough that you forget which names belong to the dogs or to the kids or just plain forget which kid is whom! gobbler
