Dakota
I'm hoping to go on a trophy elk hunt and I am looking for a good rifle cal. I have a severe heart condition and am a young shooter, so I was thinking maybe a Remington 700 .260 topped with a Leopold scope. Will the .260 do the job cleanly and efficiantly? I don't want much recoil, especially the first year after my heart surgery (which will be Thurs.). Thanks for any help. God bless! gobbler
AJ
Re: .260 or .270? I would suggest the .260 Rem. It has enough power to get the job done and has minimal recoil for a big game cartridge. I would not use any bullet less than 140 grains though. Remington has their Core Lokt Ultra Bonded (CLUB) 140 gr bullet offered in the .260 Rem. You can have a brake installed to reduce the recoil even more.
Huntr104
Re: .260 or .270? I would recommend the .270 and you can use the Remington Managed Recoil ammo. Good luck

Good luck [/ QUOTE ] I definately do not recommend using the Managed Recoil ammo for game larger than deer. They are not designed for elk size game. The sectional density is lower for a light weight bullet of larger diameter and the lower the sectional density the less ability the bullet has to penetrate. too_pointer
Re: .260 or .270? I don't want much recoil, especially the first year after my heart surgery I wish you the very best on your surgery. I had quadruple bypass last Oct. Still recovering some, you expect that to. God bless, and keep us posted too_pointer
LifeNRA
Re: .260 or .270? .270! .260 ammo is harder to find around here. Plus I have a 270 now!
wtnhunt
Re: .260 or .270? Looks like AJ has you covered. Personally if it were me, I would go with the .270 for ammo selection, but with the recoil in question best to listen to AJ here. Hope everything goes well with the surgery and best of luck with the hunt.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: .260 or .270? gobblerbane, I sent you a PM. Check your post in the "Big Game & Exotic" section. Rifleman25 posted there you could borrow his 270 for your elk hunt. Check it out-----sounds like you 2 could work out some kind of deal.
