Basketball Brawl

Those guys really are dense!! Apparently it didn't occur to them that beating on fans no matter how rude or ignorant they are is just the sam as giving them millions and forgetting the beating. Aside from the whole thing being disgraceful, the lawsuits are going to keep them tied up until long after their indefinate suspensions are lifted.

Re: Basketball Brawl

Well said snapper. I think it high time the professional sporting organizations enforce strict new rules that will remove any professional figure that engages in such haneous behavior... It's just disgusting that these individuals are paid what they are, then allowed to behave in such a manner.

[ QUOTE ]

These are the things that I hate about "pro" players in any sport.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know Snapper. The players at the collegeiate level proved them selves just as bad. Did you see the brawl that broke out in the South Carolina vs Clemson football game yesterday. Was one of the biggest sports brawls I have ever seen. There had to be 100 police officers on the field, and they couldn'y do a thing to stop this brawl. It was pretty disgracefull. At least it was between the 2 teams, and they didn't get into it with the fans.

I agree about most pro athletes. Especially these spoiled rotten NBA players. I can see tempers flaring between players on the court once in a while, but when it turns to players against fans, its pretty sad.

If you payed me half what these guys are paid. you could heckle me, and throw beer at me all you want!!! I'd laugh all the way to the bank.

Re: Basketball Brawl

i agree buckbuster....some of the blame should be put on the fans....but those d*&m ESPN announcers seem to be putting it all on the fans. Ron artest is the one who threw the first punch...and to top it off...he went after THE WRONG GUY! and then he thrw the first punch at another fan....don't think he is going to be playing basketball anymore...at least not in the NBA. he is going to get some hefty fines and there will be a couple lawsuits coming his way. and jermaine o'neal will have at least one lawsuit coming after he came from out of no where and sucker punched a guy...who i believe was the one who was taken to the hospital. its definetly a shame...for the metro detroit area as well as the NBA

I disagee with most, I agree that they are paid to much and that behavior in untolerable wether your being paid to play or playing in school, but, let's say that Artest is your average guy, and the fan is just some guy, and these two guys are in the bar having beers with their buddies, something causes a disagreement a beer is thrown, you have the same thing happen at the bar an all out brawl, only one thing is different several go to jail and no ones gonna get rich from some **** lawsuit. Just because an athlete gets paid more money for one season then most people make in a lifetime, does not mean they should not be able to stand up for themselves, I would of done the same **** thing, and anyone that says they wouldn't get mad or go after someone that threw a beer on them would be lying. It was wrong but I don't think the fans should get anything or the players. IMO

Re: Basketball Brawl

I posted something also about the fight, didn't see this post... my bad

I too witnessed the fight, when you have a bunch of drunken men watchin sports, it becomes aware that anything will start a fight. And when Ben Wallace threw his head band off, that gave the fans to think it's time to throw something as well. Where was the Pistons players when Wallace was after Artest??? They just let him go. Also I do think if the players get paid like they do, they need thick skins, but It would be hard for me to not do anything if a chair was thrown or beer in the face. I played high school baseball and someone threw a bottle on our field filled with a mountain dew, filled up bottle and hit me in the forehead.... so it would be hard for me or anyone not to protest. Also I thought it was dumb when one of the Fans on the court walked up to Artest and clinched his first. He looked like he was wanting some and Artest gave him some.

Even in the Clemson and SC game, where was the police, they didn't come out until the whole team was out there, which was already too late.

Sad day to be a fan of anything... I'm happy I went hunting after that!

Re: Basketball Brawl

I'll say it now, I agree with RacksnBeard.... it's about time the Fans got their mouths shut..... the fans can get away with everything. What ron artest did is what any human would have done go after that player..... We are all human.... and not machines. I'm happy Artest went after him, cause if he didn't this would probably happen again.

Would you go after Wallace if you were in Artest's shoes???? I'm a pretty big and soild guy myself I'm 6'5 250lbs... and I wouldn't....

Also Artest had bad records of Technical Fouls and he tried to relax and let it go. When Wallace threw his headband at him, the drunk fans decide it was cool to throw other things at him. Words didn't affect Artest but I'm sure some stinky beer would.

Go Pacers!

Well, Artest is gone for the year, Jackson will be suspended for 30 games and I think O'Neal got 25 games. I'd say the NBA sent a message.

[/ QUOTE ]

That should get their attention. Bet a little thought goes into the next brawl!

Congrats, David Stern.

Ok, lets go back to the beginning. The reason Wallace even did anything was because Artest had an out of line hard foul on Wallace. So Wallace retaliated with a shove. So your telling me that Ron Artest should go after a fan in the stands and take his anger of Ben Wallace on some little weinie in the stands because he knows he can kick his butt and not Wallaces? OK!!! Be a frickin man....if you wanna start something, finish it with who you started it with.

[/ QUOTE ] Well im glad he went and started a fight with a fan so he wouldnt get anymore technical fouls.....thats cuz he wont be playing!!!

All in all.....Ron Artest should be in a fricking mental institute. He is the biggest head case I have seen in the NBA. This isnt the first time he has started a fight or brawl or had a big fine or suspenmsion. Hes been causing these things since he has been in the NBA. He needs to be kicked out for good...hes too dangerous and stupid.

Re: Basketball Brawl

Also I believe he wasn't getting his anger out cause of Wallace, didn't you see someone throw something at him. I'm sure he wasn't worried about Mr. Wallace, after getting beer/beverage of some kind thrown on him. I'm sure when he went after the fan he didn't even think of Wallace anymore.

He's the great defender, but a hot head. The Pacers will probably be better without him.

Re: Basketball Brawl

Ok, sorry, it might have not been necessarily a hard foul, but most definately an unnecessary foul......with less than a minute to go and the Pacers clearly going to win, that was totally uncalled for......any other player who has some kind of common sense would not have made the foul...But Mr. Artest felt it necessary.

And speaking of the fan who threw the beer....the guy who got attacked wasnt even the guy who threw the beer!!!! The guy that got attacked had a beer in his hand while he was getting beaten on.

In end...both were wrong, the fan and Artest........and to be honest, i could care less that Artest more than likely make a heck of alot more money than the guy in the stands, but lets look at it this way.........Who is in the spotlight of the entire nation, having their face on several TV stations every single night, with millions of kids looking up to them as their role model, their hero, their favorite player?? I sure dont think it was the guy who threw the beer! Sure I would be hot and angry, but you have to look at the big picture before you make actions. Ron didnt and never has. He could have kept his cool and the guy who threw the beer would have probably been arrested, in jail, and had fines......but look whos paying the price now.

Re: Basketball Brawl

How in the world do you or any TV news reporter knew the guy told him to bring it?!?!? Anybody in there right mind wouldnt tell a guy as big as Artest to "bring it". Artest is just a freekin piece or trash looking for trouble or a fight, always has been, always will be.....thats all there is to it.

Re: Basketball Brawl

If you ask me, EVERYONE acted badly!!!! The Fans and the players!

This is what I can't stand about sports these days. Used to be, you got a hard foul, you dusted yourself off, walked to the foul line and took your free throws. Now, you gotta get in the guys face, push him around a bit and show your "manhood"!!!! shocked.gif GUys are "jawing' at each other- who's the biggest man? I wish we could go back to the days of letting your PLAY speak for itself and leave all the macho chest bumping, jawing and other @#$% out of it!!!!!! Just play the darn game and keep your mouth shut!!!!!

And the fans were no better. Bunch of wusses throwing beer and looking for a fight! Looked to me like a bunch of overweight couch potatoes who couldn't make their own H.S. team- looking to get in a free shot on a spoiled, overpaid pro athlete! wink.gif

I think everyone got what they deserved! wink.gif

Re: Basketball Brawl

which guy are you guys talkin about?? the first guy he attacked looked like he was just cheering and then artest came running upeven if he was talkin smack so what? show me a sport where the fans don't talk smack to the opposing teams players. the other guy he swung at looked like he was talkin some smack, but thats still no reason for artest to start swinging. the guy didn't lay a hand on him or throw anythign at him til artest started throwing punches...in my opinion ron artest is the "punk" that the espn reports should have been talking about not the fans
