ousoonerfan22
Do you think the 17hmr will ricochet(spelling?) off of water? I've been trying to get rid of some turtles in the ponds. Brian
AJ
Re: 17hmr Just like any bullet, it depends on the angle. Apply some common sence and you should be ok.
ousoonerfan22
Re: 17hmr I was thinking these bullets would blow up on impact and not ricochet like a 22lr or 22mag. Do you think the hollow point or ballistic tip bullet would be less likely to ricochet? Brian

The explosiveness of a bullet is determined by its construction and the impact velocity. The lower the velocity, the less damage and less violent the expansion. I would expect it to be fairly similar to the 22 mag with a poly tipped bullet.
ousoonerfan22
Re: 17hmr I haven't shot a poly tipped 22 mag but as common sense should tell you shooting across the pond with less of an angle results in a ricochet with normal lead bullets. I try to shoot down on the water from the dam but those big turtles coming up across the pond sure are enticing.
LETMGROW
Re: 17hmr Chances are if you hit the turtle in the first place you wouldn't risk a ricochet! LOL

robk
Re: 17hmr you could get anything to ricchoett but if your angleof attack is steep is good you won't need to worry., also if it should make the bounce make sure there is a good background to shoot into rob k i shot 22 22 mag and 17hmrs all over the place and never a problem
