Newarcher
Went back to my land last night and took my son....it is a micro tract of only about 5 acres behind my church. Great little honey hole. But what I found kind of concerned me..... I saw several bones laying around which comprised at LEAST two deer because I had four jaw bones. Also, I found several areas (probably 5-6 areas) scattered around the land where there was about a 6 foot round scattering of deer hair. I am guessing that the coyotes are having a field day with the deer on the property. I have never seen any yotes but I did see a large fox last season. I could see a sick deer getting run down by a yote but multiple deer? Unless the workers next door are shooting them and leaving them laying for the yotes to eat, that's really the only other explanation I can come up with. I may have to start predator hunting! New p.s. found several bones and two jaws but not one single shed.

Newarcher
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS I don't think so....over the past three years of hunting there I have noticed one from time to time show up. I just had never seen so many at once. I am wondering if there aren't a pack of yotes out there reaking havoc. I did notice on the soft ground of the ball field that there were yote tracks following some deer tracks one day. Hopefully it was just two deer that got pulled to pieces and fought over....explaining the hair all over the place in various spots. I kept my son at arm's length just in case...... Jeramie
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS It could very well be one deer. Dead animals have a way of growing. Ive seen some left over cows look like a herd had been slaughtered! On the other hand, I wouldnt put it past poachers. A guy here at work was telling me that his dad found a pile of deer by their creek. I guess people were thumping does and cutting out the backstraps, way out of season on top of that. I wouldnt put it past something like that happening.
wtnhunt
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS Not so sure a yote or even a couple could take down a healthy deer, much less 2 at the same time. I do however think that they hunt in packs, and larger groups might just take down a healthy doe. They will also hunt weak animals. No way really of knowing for certain what happened, but would not hurt to try to take out some those yotes anyways.

VtBowhunter
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS Sounds like a dump site for bones and hides after the deer has been processed, especially if you've seen this before over the years. BowJoe
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS I know for a fact that it doesn't take a whole pack to take down a buck. I saw a coyote chasing a good sized buck one day on my way home from work. Straight across a field and no help in sight. That 'yote was right on his heels, literally. I guess it's not a fact, but a good indicator.

[/ QUOTE ] I agree, if it's happened there before, then someone is using that spot to dumb their carcasses. There's a spot along the river I fish that usually has one or two carcasses, and it's been that way for about 5 years now. Probably the same yahoo that found an easy way to rid himself of the deer he butchered.
Newarcher
Re: Went shed hunting....I don\'t like THIS No, maybe I gave the wrong impression. I didn't find the whole carcass....just a neck vertebrae here and a leg bone there and jaw bone over there. Plus, the various scatterings of deer hair in almost circular type patterns. No hides, no whole carcasses. It looked as if maybe coyotes had attacked a deer, pulled it to pieces, and then dragged the pieces off to various areas to eat them. Also, some of the bones were very old and some were new since hunting season ended because they weren't there previously. All together I found two lower portions of a jaw bone (in fact it could have been from a single deer) some vertebrae and a couple leg portions that looked old. But what wasn't old were the patches of scattered deer hair. If you can imagine shooting a pheasant and the feathers scattering on the impact and landing in a small area, this is what the deer hair scatterings were like. Definitely the work of coyotes, I think. New
GWSmith
Re: *Warning: Graphic Picture* Caedo, By the looks of things...I think your right. Not too many winter kill deer end up with parts of them landing in a plastic bag like that one. Looks like it was dumped and then torn apart afterwards. Very suprising about the deertracks too. New, I'd be checking out those GA. Reg's and see when the Yote season is....sounds like some pelts need to be hanging of a hook
wtnhunt
Re: *Warning: Graphic Picture* The few deer we have found after coyotes have gotten to them were not really spread out,but then those deer were in pretty well hidden locations. I would imagine if out in the open yotes would drag pieces here and there.
arrow32
Re: *Warning: Graphic Picture* The ones i find here that the yotes have gotten and the one that i shot and couldnt find but they did and ate the hole thing the bones werent spread out to much. Maybe a leg or somthing over there and another leg over here but not really spread out to far.

M00N
Re: *Warning: Graphic Picture* To me sounds like a dump site or poaching site. The yotes may have gotten to the dumped carcass and spread it around the area, but yotes prefer to scavange, hunt weak/injured animals, or hunt smaller animals. Unless the deer were sick or wounded I would find it highly doubtful to find two deer taken out by yotes in the same area. Now a pack of dogs, wolf/dog crosses, wolves, yote/wolf crosses I may see actually pack hunting healthy deer. I could only see yotes pack hunting several deer like this if it was their only food source available and they were very hungry.

Hardwood_HD
Re: *Warning: Graphic Picture* I'v got the same problem on the property i have hunted, a couple weeks ago i found 3 dead deer, two of which was within 20yards of tree stands. one looked old but the two by the stands were some what fresh and they had bullet holes in them, one even had its rack cut off. our deer season has been over for 2 months and i know the deer were more fresh than that.
