rifleman25
Do any of you know about colorado unit 17? I'm thinking about trying to do a 3rd or 4th season hunt between Steamboat and Walden. I have a private ranch that has offered a reasonable tresspass fee for the season and the ranch borders the Routt Ntl. Forest?
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: Colorado unit 17? I don't know the northern elk units all. I would think the 4th season would be better because it's later into winter & the elk should be down because of the snow. But then you will also have to deal with winter weather. Call the local DOW office in Steanboat & ask them. A good place to start. CB
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Colorado unit 17? Rifleman, I spent a summer working on a hay ranch northwest of Walden some 26 years ago. 4th season would be my guess. Call the DOW office in Steamboat at 970-870-2917 and ask for the phone number of the district officer for the Walden area. Be sure to let them know that you are interested in unit 17 which touches Walden in one corner, that is the only town nearby. NYBUCK
Re: Colorado unit 17? I am pretty sure that is where we are going this year. I have never been there but we are planning on going the first week in September before the muzzleloading season. We were going to go the week after but we heard that the bulls got somewhat spoooky after the ML season.
