I PAST UP A BEARDED HEN ( ABOUT 5" ) , the tom hung up at 80 yds. , then past on 4 jakes all on wed. morning . two more jakes in the afternoon. nothing on thurs. past on a adult tom at 35 - 40 yds. just to thick on fri. . saturday morning called a tom in from approx. 500 yds. took about 1/2 hr. .i got the bird ,10" beard , 21 1/2 lbs. , 3/4 spurs. . just can't give up! Spooked either him or another bird off a roost before shooting hours. Our bird shut-up after no more than 10 gobbles. We went in his direction 3 birds were still on the roost and spooked. And that was at 6:15. That is late for around here. We went back to the truck. Looked over in a pasture behind us, a jake and 2 hens. We had permission to hunt the land the jake was on, so we walked over there, called a little, no gobbling, so we went and split up and hunted a little longer. I was hearing some hens clucking. Then heard a gobble. I was facing a different direction than I thought I was so the bird that I thought was in a field behindme a few hundred yards, ended up being in some private land across the road form ours. Met p with dad, and caled it quits. we left around 9. A pretty boring hunt in my opinion. I knew we screwed up thewhole day after spooking 4 different birds off their roost. Yesturday (Sat.) right when I sat down I heard gobblers. So I yelped back gto them and they tottaly went off! I was so excited hearing them gobble. However, the whole day just a non-bearded hen came out. Today (Sunday), same thing. We had one gobbler now more than 100 yds away right when we sat down. He was so into the calls that I had a feeling he'd show...however, he never came out. Not sure why, we didn't have decoys so that maybe have been one reason. So all we saw were a few turkeys (far away). it was one heck of an experience for both my dad and I. I am sure glad I decided to try this type of hunting. Sure got me ready for some deer hunting now! Didn't hear anything. Still not gobbling. Season ends day after tomorrow...looks like 'ol huntin'sonovagun goes home empty handed again.
