Gator
Anyone use them? I just started last year on my jugs, now limb lines, and this year bought some for "perch jerkin" they are supposed to keep the fish from swallin the hook, and I must say they work.t night I caught a little ole perch that should have swallowed it, but was hooked through the lip. If you fish alot and are tired if them swallin the hook, try some.
buckee
Re: Circle Hooks We've been using them for long-lining Halibut and other ground fish for years here on the west coast.

Gator
Re: Circle Hooks Leatherneck, circle hooks is the style, there are several manufacturers. GAMAKATSU is one that comes to mind. They make one called OCTOPUS CIRCLE, these baby's are SHARP!! Also come in sizes from think #4 to around 7/0. Several other manufacturers are Eagle Claw, Mustad, and VMC. But be forewarned that it seems like there is no standard in size. An Eagle Claw 5/0 may be more like a 3/0, or Eagle Claw 13/0 is the same size as a Mustad 10/0, trust me, that happened to me. Now whenever I buy any, I look at all sizes to see what I want.

Guest Andrea
Re: Circle Hooks Hey Jason.......is the technique still the same for catching bream as it is for say...........grouper? With circle hooks, you can't "snatch" to set the hook....you have to simply reel down. The fish basically "catches" his self by turning to swim away. Right? Gator
Re: Circle Hooks HG, the other night is the first time I have used them for bream sized fish, so I really don't know. The one that should have swallowed the hook was on for a good 30 sec before I even tried to reel my line in, I was trying to get a loop off the line when he hit. But I do beleive you are right. I will no more after next weekend, I will be doing some seriuos "perch jerking" then
Guest Andrea
Re: Circle Hooks I know that when we use them for catfish, I can't "set the hook" because they always get away. You have to just reel and the fish hooks himself.
Gator
Re: Circle Hooks I did read the other day that that is the way they are designed, to where you don't set the hook, the hook will set itsself
leatherneck
Re: Circle Hooks that's gonna be a hard habit to stop. I will probably loose alot of fish at first do to setting the hook.
Jeramie
Re: Circle Hooks We use them for Cats too, mainly limb lines. They dont get off nearly as easily!
Gator
Re: Circle Hooks What size do you use jeramie? The guys I fish with use anywhere from 13/0 to 16/0 hooks that are red anodized.
Jeramie
Re: Circle Hooks I would have to look. I havent bought any since last year. Ill look as soon as I get home! Btw, if you want to come out and camp this summer let me know. We literally set limb lines pretty much all summer. We sit up around a fire, drinking coffee, and runs the lines all night! Its a blast! Gator
Re: Circle Hooks I am headed to Kaw at the end of the month. I will be setting 13 limb lines, and 15 jugs. Cotton and Shannon will have out 20 limb lines each, and I dunno how many jugs, then Lynn will have out 10 limb lines. We check ours every morning and evening. What are you using for your tags? I came up with some that I think will last ALONG time. I took business card stock, and made them into tags on the 'puter, then bought luggage tag lamination and laminated them. The tags already have holes in them that makes them easier than to put on your lines.
Jeramie
Re: Circle Hooks Thats a pretty good idea. I ususally just type out the information, copy it several times and then cut them out. I then tape both sides (a couple of times) with box tape. If the little tags werent so expensive, id use the dog tag maker at my wifes vet clinic. I would get them wholesale but I still think it would be somewhere in the neighborhood of $2-$3 each. They would last forever though! HG, Here in Ok all limb lines have to have the owners name and address attached to them.

Kinda silly. If someone wanted to take your fish, he's gonna do it regardless. Ya know??? We don't have to do that down here. But if you get caught taking someone else's fish.....your asking for a fight.
