Guest HOYTUSA2008
i was just wondering if any of you have been bowfishing? I'm wanting to try it and was wondering if any of you had advice on tactics or equipment?
Tominator
Re: bowfishing Yep. It's a blast. Up on Kelleys Island, there's this place called the swamp. There's a very narrow channel that leads from the lake to the swamp. Carp used to use the channel to get to the spawning water in the swamp. Shooting them was as easy as sitting on the bank of the channel and shooting them as they went by. You can get very sophisticated about your set up, or you can go buy a $30 set up and shoot away. Only tip I can say is make sure your string is OUTSIDE of your bow hand. Otherwise you're gonna' get a pretty good rope burn right across the top of your bow hand. Guest lovinbowhuntin247365
Re: bowfishing all right ... tips on gear: i just use a simple wind-up spool that you can buy for around 10 bucks, and a fiberglass arrow that you can buy for around 10 bucks .,.. you jsut screw the spool into the spot that your stabilizer goes, and tie it to the arrow ... and youre set! you dont even need fins, because the arrow is so heavy ... but anyways, thers a reel for bowfishing that goes for around 70 bucks, and i want to get that ... if you buy the windup spool, BUY EXTRA LINE!!! they give you 50 feet of nylon line, which isnt ewnough if the fish tries to run ... so buy more!!! but thats all you need, is a hand-spool and an arrow to tie the string to, and youre set

Guest deerhntnwithdogs
Re: bowfishing I use an old Pearson Bushmaster and a muzzy stabiliser reel seat with a Shakespeare Synergy Reel on it, and a fiberglass arrow with muzzy carp tip. You can get completely setup an older bow for about 75 bucks if that. Heres the reel seat I use: http://www.shopatron.com/product/product_id=MZY1063/182.0.1934.1951.0.0.0 Heres the arrows: I can also suggest that you take some wire leader, and thread one end through the back hole on the arrow shaft, then take the other end and slide a swivel on it and put it through the other hole, loop them over the shaft and crimp them with wire leader crimpers and sleeves and crimp them back to the big piece of leader, then tie your line onto the swivel, that way when you go to shoot you hit the button on your reel, slide the line to the end of the arrowthen draw, that way the line wont get tangle on the rest and cause snap-back. heres a pic of an arrow with the cablin system on it: http://www.sullysbowfishing.com/main.asp?Dept=Shop&Category=Bows AMS also offers a thing called the safety-slide: http://www.sullysbowfishing.com/main.asp?Dept=Shop&Category=Bows Heres the reel I use: (put about 80 lbs. spider-wire on it braid works great on these reels) Keep an eye out at walmart for the reel, I found mine for 8 bucks at wallyworld but as you can see in the link they usually go for about 23-25 bucks http://www.sullysbowfishing.com/main.asp?Dept=Shop&Category=Bows as far as arrow rests go, you can either get a roller or something designed for bowfishing or do what I did, get an old golden key shoot through style or NAP Quiktune, fletching clearance shouldnt be a concern really because you dont need to use fletchings their more of a hinderance than a help. Just shootem bareshaft, sounds crazy to someone used to shooting fletching for stability from regular archery I know I didnt beleive it either but remeber, not only is it a heavier arrow, but you have a little drag on the rear-end to keep it straight from the reel line also. The state park is right there and the swamp is right near the beach, just a few yards southeast of the beach, and west of the 4-H camp.
