Re: ANTELOPE IN WYOMING

Some pointers on goat care after the kill...

I was born and raised in SW Wy. antelope is one of my favorite species, but if you don't take care of the meat you may be dissapointed, I have found that when I skin and quarter the animal and put it on ice within the hour of the shot, The meat is tender and much more palletable. Just a suggestion, I like to use the big blocks of ice and depending on cooler size one or two per will do fine. Enjoy the hunt and the great table fair after!

Don't shoot the 1st one you see. Antelope hunting is fun. Look over lots of them----if you blow a stalk don't worry---more are just down around the bend. Skin it & get it cooled ASAP. Plus if you want a mount get it caped & on dry ice then to the taxidermist ASAP----th hair can slip real easy on them. IMO they make the prettiest mount of all the game animals. CB

Too,

ColoradoBob gave you good advice, don't shoot the first one you see because you will have LOTS of opportunities. The hard part about antelope hunting is drawing the tag, the fun part is glassing lots of goats, sneaking up on them, blowing a few stalks, and then finally harvesting.

It will be great fun for you, don't be in a hurry to get it over too quick.
