Getting a Ring off....

Ok, No laughing... Im getting fat.

I havent had my Wedding Ring off in roughly 2-years. When my wife got pregnant I put on roughly 20lbs with her... I never thought it would happen to me. Anyway, she needs to size her ring and I thought I might as well have mine done too.

Last night I tried to get it off.... Not happening. I ran it under cold water for 10-minutes. Poured on the dish soap... Negative. I honestly have never noticed but I have this nasty shrunken ring around my finger. I now know I need to get this thing off! My finger is swollen and sore from all the prying yesterday!

Anyone have any good tricks? I used a TON of dish soap and tried to wedge it off a little at a time.... It made it a little ways but bunched my finger up at the edge and just would NOT come off. Im in a panic...

HELP!

Re: Getting a Ring off....

try this:

take a piece of suture or thick string, and starting from the top of the finger, wrap very tightly down to the ring, compressing the tissue. Pass the end of the suture under the ring, then pull up slowly, working the ring up over the suture. The suture will push enough fluid out of the finger that you can usually remove it intact.

If that doesn't work.....soak your hand in ice water ( complete with ice cubes) for as long as you can stand. Make sure you drink lots of water too, as this will help with water retention and help with the swelling.

Re: Getting a Ring off....

before you cut it...there's a few other things that might help.

-take some tylenol (it will thin the blood)

-wipe Preparation H all over your hand (it will also bring down swelling and thin the blood.)

-put an ice pack on the finger

-then elevate your arm for about ten minutes to let the blood flow down from your arm (keep the ice on it while doing this).

-then as quickly as you can, dump tons of liguid soap on the finger and slowly rock the ring back and forth (don't pull)

if that doesn't work go to a jewely store and they'll cut it off for free....beats the doctor's bill.

You know, Eric is rarely good for good advice, but I think the boy is giving good advice here.

Usually I get concern when Tominator and I agree...makes me wonder if I'm doing something wrong...but in this case he sounds like he found some logic or something. grin.gif

no offense HG, but I'd stay away from this Jeramie...that cold water is going to shrink the ring too. Just my 2 cents.

LOL... this is too good to pass up... grin.gifgrin.gif

I just had this problem not too long ago.... crazy.gifcrazy.gif,,, Here's what you do,, go to the cupboard and get the vegtable oil, pour it all over the ring area and finger,, while rotating the ring clockwise and keeping constant pressure on the ring have your wife gently tuck the excess skin under the ring...once it passes the flesh part of the first knuckle you're home free.... wink.gif

LOL--about the same. Like I said in another post, I think my body likes 250# crazy.gifsmirk.gif

I've gained 60lbs. since my wedding day, and my ring still fits like it did when we got married. crazy.gif

You might be retaining crap loads of water. Cut down on the sodium content for a few days and see if that gets the ring off.

Re: Getting a Ring off....

I like the idea of twisting clockwise and all, just instead of pushing the skin through the ring, pull it through from the back of the ring. Works better. Lay off the salt for a day or two and drink an enormous amount of water. Whenever you think of it, drink like a quart or more of water. Doing this over several days or a day will make a big difference. My wife is pregnant and whenever she takes in too much salt, her hands swell. She drinks water like a fish and within a day the swelling is down really far.

Re: Getting a Ring off....

The really sad part is I’ve lost 12lbs and the ring is far tighter now then it was before hand!?!? I have been drinking way to much diet soda (40mg per can, Sodium). I’ve been eating a lot of salty foods (including sunflower seeds), and I haven’t been drinking much water. Shame, Shame.

I’m going to call the Jewelry shop and see if they can just cut off the ring and fix it. I can drink a ton of water and lay off salt for a few days and I’m sure it would come off. At least I think it would come off. Last night I wrapped my finger with thread. It almost come off. If I hadn’t worked on it the night before (causing my finger to swell) it would have been free. I got it to the knuckle and then took a pair of pliers and twisted it clockwise. That worked until it hit the knuckle. Skin bunched up at the knuckle and the ring started digging into my finger. If it hadn’t already been swollen it would have been off!

Anyway, If the jeweler has any reservations about cutting the ring I’m going to drink about 4-gallons of water, get out the Crisco, Windex, and Axle Grease.
