[/ QUOTE ] I agree completely. Kids are exposed to advertising for this product everyday, they're well aware of it. They see people using it, and it's up to parents and their free will to decide if they use it or not. I'm all for protecting our kids, but hey...when I was a little guy, I chewed bubble gum cigarettes, I played with toy guns, I played with violent video games, I rode a bike with no helment, I stayed out after dark and I got dirty...I turned out fine. Protecting our kids and sissifying them are two different things, we're in the process of creating a nation of pansies. Besides, this isn't Realtree Russia is it? It's legal so it shouldn't be banned here. There's a lot more implied concepts that goe on here that we should be more worried about any way. Banning topics is a slipery slope at times, however, I would personaly support staying away from the promotion of drinking or tobbaco use. Let me start off with saying that never at anytime did I say snuff was good or bad for you. My intentions were never to get kids to start dipping. Alls i asked was a simple question for those WHO USED snuff as to what their brand and flavor was. I happen to love the stuff and I am well aware of it's affects. Smoking has similar results. Alcohol does too. So in my opinion if we can't talk about anything harmful than I think we need to setup soem new guidelines on whats acceptable and whats not. If tobaco use is not for childrens eyes cause it's harmful then I see these issues as unfit as well. Tobacco of any kind. Alcohol Tanning Beds and Tanning ( causes cancer ) Greasy Foods ( cause heart attacks ) Various Tools ( misuse can injure one severely or cause death ) Painting and Yard Work ( Fumes can get you high ) and many many other day to day things in life. Call that rash, but I see it as the same thing. This post appals me and disgusts me to see how I have been singled out over something like this. I apologize for posting the snuff post. I didn't know that simple conversation was against the rules these days. I guess as a MODERATOR I should have known better than to post something like that here on these forums...... If there was one thing I learnd in the Marine Corps. It was that with rank comes more crap. All eyes are on you as your rank progresses, as you are there to take care of and set the modle for your junior Marines. You have picked up the rank of Moderator, and I would be very proud of that, it takes someone trust worthy and you fit that discription, but again with rank and responsibility you will be looked at as an example for good and for bad. That is one of the many prices to pay to be a leader. You are a rolemodle weather you like it or not, and as long as you hold a billit of any kind there will be folks watching you. I believe this is a viable topic to discuss both sides of, your post on dip just provided someone the impulse to start it. However, I would like to note that, of those things you listed, Tobacco is the only one that used as directed has the full harmfull effects. The rest of them are only harmfull if used in Excess(alcohol and tanning beds) or Improperly(everything else). Some would argue that tobacco can also be used in moderation and be rendered safer. This is true to an extent, and if this discussion were on Pipe tobacco or Cigars I would agree that they can be used in moderation. However, cigarettes and dip or snuff are used purely for the purpose of delivering the nicotine to your body, yes people do like the taste, but the vast majority of cigarette or dip users are not using in moderation. Again I am not advocating banning mention of any of these habits, mearly the idea of not devoting entire threads to "The Best XYZ" for harmful substances. You and anyone else in here are more than welcome to disagree with me, honestly I would not be offended if they were not banned or stopped but I wouldn't be offended if they were either, to the extent I mention. I like Sprite but thats my preference cause I dont like caffiene does not mean i dont like Coke drinkers because they drink caffiene ... the point is we need to just watch what we post ... there are a lot of kids on here ... but I dont see anything wrong with the tabacco post ... sorry its one persons opinion ... just tell your kids its bad like most of the ppl in the thread have already said ... your kids should see all them post to ...
