Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Individual preference for sure!! There are a couple of MODS here that I really wouldn't won't to model myself after.

But in all seriousness, No, I don't think so. They are not in the limelight of say a Waddell, Blanton, Jordan, Haas, or Primos.

Is this a SERIOUS question? smirk.gif

Very Serious and Yes I think they are supposed to be a role model. Wether they realize it or not they are representing our forum(good or bad). Sometimes things get out of hand and need a little control. Some things however are overly moderated. Personally, I think most of our mods do a great job. Qualities they need are patience, understanding, morals, and the list can go on and on. Patience I think is #1 because it will be tested and if you are a hothead and get mad quickly it will come out sooner or later. Also you can't be a person that holds a grudge because you can't be fair if you have something against someone because sooner or later you will let it slip that "you did this and you did that". I think we all know what I am talking about.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Yes. They are.

Like it not there are "Clicks" in here. Cetain people get along better then others and some, including mods, are looked up too by all ages. Different members are often "admired" or paid special notices for basically being who they are. Honestly there is nothing wrong with that. Its just the way it works. If you stand out in any crowd, even an online crowd, youre going to influence people around you in one way or another.

Even the youth on here follow the clicks and are drawn to the same people and or different groups for one reason or another.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

For my younger cousin that comes to these forums often. He considers the moderators someone to take seriously about what they say. He thinks very highly of a lot of the moderators and when they say something that's presented as a fact or comes off as one to him he fully believes in it and it becomes difficult to convince him otherwise sometimes because he becomes so stubborn about it. He'll repeat and if one moderator he likes promotes some item he wants it and will drive me insane about wanting it. He's too young to hunt in this state, but he fully is all out into hunting and wants to hunt so badly. He'll sit and look through these forums all day long at the pictures of everyone else hunting or all the information about hunting he can find. He repeats it all to me quite often and gets so excited about when he can finally go hunting. He really likes Buckee it seems the most out of all the moderators. He talks about things Buckee posts quite often. smirk.gif So, yes some of the younger kids do look up to the moderators as rolemodels.

Seriously.....yes, they are the ones that are supposed to keep it all "in line" here and weed out the bad stuff. Gotta look up to that. smirk.gif

That is tough Ranger, I would say

Yes probably for some people, and not for others. I don't think it is a simple yes or no. Every has different people they look at as role models.

Sorry I couldnt be more specific for ya.

Great answer right there. The mods here are so diverse when looking at them as an entire group, dont know about role models, but most of us can learn at least something from probably just about each and every one of them.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

As far as myself looking up to the moderators as rolemodels. I don't really look up to anyone in life as that. I believe in being myself and doing things that I want to do with my life. I really don't let others influence me. I will take things people say and help build up a knowledge on something around me to help me decide on how I want to run my life on that aspect, but I do not look up to any one person and hold them any higher than anyone else. Nor will I let someone influence me in negative ways when I don't want to be influenced in those ways.

I think highly of the moderators on here though. When one corrects me or does their job on the forums I respect it. I appreciate their work, as I myself have moderator/administrator functions on other websites on the net and know how difficult their jobs are. We only get to see the public parts of their jobs, but I'm sure there is a lot of private work they do too. In either case, at least with all my moderator/administrator jobs I have had over the internet, there was always a requirement to act as a rolemodel. Even if a moderator doesn't want to be one there will still be people who will consider you one.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Here's my only problem with the idea that moderator's or anyone you meet online could be considered role models:

I could be a long standing PETA member or a convicted felon with a rap sheet 8 feet long.

Noone really knows for sure what type of person you are. Some say they can tell if they post here long enough. Maybe. But being able to compose a reply with the time to think and calculate does not define an individual. Some people are better at using written words to express themselves, some aren't. The ones that can shouldn't be held at a higher esteem and vice versa.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

IMO, I believe that mostly young people look up to moderators, personally I may read what they have to say but I value their opinion on the same level as most of the other people on this forum.

As a teacher, throughout the school year I see every 7th grader, which is about 360 kids. As a teacher I have to be very careful of what I say because at that age they can be very easily steered towards something that may not be good for them. A lot of kids do not know where they fit in yet. They are developing and maturing much faster every year, basically growing up to fast IMO. As far as I am concerned I would like to the higher powers, in this case the moderators, be careful of what they say and do. If you have a habit that is not exactly healthy for young people than please be careful what you say about it.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

But on here the words are what you identify with. Few people meet eachother face to face as opposed to the number of people who will never meet eachother. The way you present yourself on these forums determines how you will be precieved by the audience. So even if you are a convicted felon, you can still set a good example on these forums. Thats why we have more than one mod I'm assuming, so that incase one person is trying to negatively infleunce the people on these forums, we can put a stop to it.

And all though I don't personaly model myself after all the mods, I believe they do have a major infleunce and impact on many people and must keep that in mind when posting. Not saying they can't express their opinions but remember who's watching. I think they do a pretty darngood job and feel free to give yourselves a pat on the back (from me) anytime you feel like it wink.gif. Keep up the good work!

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Umm....aren't we placing a little bit to much importance on the position of forum moderator here guys???? confused.gif

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice thing they do, volunteering to monitor the forum...and they do a good job (sometimes I might disagree grin.gif) but for the most part it's a solid group of guys and they make the right calls.

But seriously, some of this moderator talk is a bit much eh?

Just my 2 cents.

btw- MCH a role model confused.gif dudes a banker crazy.gif that's get real blush.gifgrin.gif
