Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

I thought this post along with the others was pretty good conversation, even though I stayed out of it IMO.;) I didn't view it as an attack on moderators.

In a perfect world, all Adults, should be role models. Too bad they ain't.

In my opinion there are 3 kinds of people in this world. Leaders, Followers and fence sitters.

If your going to be a leader, make sure you don't lead someone over a cliff.

If your going to be a follower, think real hard about who or what your following, or you'll end up over a cliff..

And if your going to straddle the fence, make sure you sit so you can see both directions, so you know which side to get off on, when you make up your mind whether your going to lead or follow. grin.gif

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

I would say for this site, yes. Not many of us really know eachother in real life though, so that part of it could swing either way. I would venture to say that most mods are pretty good in "real" life, and try hard to be "good".

Well in truth all adults should conduct themselves in such a manner that the younger people on here look to them for guidance. So we should as ambassadors of the sport of hunting all try to be role models for the younger hunters and would be hunters who visit here.

Because in reality I can not control what you say or to whom you address certain comments to, but I don't have to respond in a like manner or respond at all. Just my own way of moderation... Mods have a thankless job, sort of like the internet Sheriff, here just to keep the peace smile.gif By the way you all do a good job.....

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Y'all do realize that Scott posted a poll on tobacco use a while back, right?

I can bet that not one of you would have the stuff to call him out on it at the time.

This world is becoming too P.C., and everyone is lookin' for a place to dump the blame for kids doing dumb stuff. Guess what, y'all did dumb stuff way back when, and our folks didn't try to place blame where it didn't belong.

Folks are becoming too sensative now, and it seems that those of us with thick skin and the ability to roll with the punches are in the wrong for not trying to lump problems in one group or another, but instead place resposibility on the Parents where it belongs.

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

One thing I hate about these forums is the moderator's name is green, instead of black like the other forum members.

I've seen several users bumped to "mod status" and then their posts come to a halt. Most are very knowledgable and fun guys to talk with, but I think the reason they quit posting is because of the flack they catch from most insignificant topics.

Now, I don't neccesarily with Kyle's post (since it seems he's the targeted victim) but I sure ain't going to bash him for it! For one, I've seen countless posts from your "average members" about the same dang topic (and worse!!!) and not a thing has been said about it. A moderator posts the same exact thing and catches crap about it....doesn't seem fair to me.

This is one of my pet-peeves. But I'll admit I'm probably guilty too. I'm sure I've gotten mad at a mod and then said "well, you're a mod...you can't say that" Heck...they joined the forums the same way I did, but showed some type of quality that Realtree liked about him or her and ASKED them to VOLUNTEER as a moderator.

Honestly, I think the moderators should be "hidden" because I'd like to see more posts from some of our quiet moderators like borch, dogdoc, Tony, and SEVERAL others. They all became silent once they hit "mod status" so they wouldn't catch crap for voicing their opinion.

I'm just glad I'm not a mod....but I would like one of those free 4-wheelers..... laugh.gif

Re: Is a Moderator a role model?

Hey buckee...even if your a fence sitter...you've still made a choice! wink.gif

Honestly...if I were Scott (which I ain't) I would lock/delete this thread along with any other dealing with "snuff" chewing just to put an end to it! Its been beaten, clubed, hammered, etc...ITS DEAD already, move on!

Are mods role models? Guess it depends on who you ask. I know Scott has gotten hundreds if not thousands of emails asking to be a mod over the past few years...must be something to the mod. status.

I personally see the mods. status more as a babysitting role than a role model. It wouldn't be that way if we all followed the rules instead of pushing the line and sometimes crossing it for fun.

Ok...please, lets move on!!!!!!
