buckee
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? We make our own grass-blinds every year, to go along this fence, where there are no trees, only grass. We have taken more deer from that grass blind than all of our treestands combined. But I love tree-stand hunting just as much
Guest TCScout
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I am not much of a bowhunter. Not because I have anything against it, it's just not my cup of tea. I do hunt with handguns all of the time, which for some reason is apparently my cup of tea. Anyway, thats not important. But, that said, I do like close-in hunting. It is exciting to me. For the last few years I have hunted 95% of the time from homemade ground blinds. To me, I get great enjoyment using the materials that are available to me in the woods. It is fun to scout a spot and then look for a place to set up an ambush. I have seen more deer and have killed more deer in the last few years. I hunt in central Kentucky where there is mixed hardwood and cedar. I love to build groundblinds on the edge of cedar thickets and hardwoods, or cedar thickets and open areas - anywhere along an "edge". I use cedar boughs to build the blinds. I store my hunting clothes and equipment year round in plastic boxes with Sure Kill cedar scent. This has proven to be a deadly combination and I have taken two good bucks the last two years running. Both were well within bow range. Man its fun!!
VTbowman
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I have quite a few scattered around my property where tree stands just can not be used, like fence rows and ditch rows, etc.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I think some of the natural blinds are better than the production ones due to the fact the natural blind is left up all year long and its part of nature. The production ones are nice due to being able to move at a moments notice but deer tend to shy away from them at first. It would be nice to leave a store bought one out for long periods of time but you also have the fear of scumbag thieves taking it. If they want to steal an all natural blind by all means take the old logs and ferns!! LOL!! I like natural blinds, seems to me a gentlemen named Bill Jordan does as well as usually you see him making them on his TV show!!
GWSmith
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I surely used to make my GB's and still always look out for those spots that would make a great one! My most successful have been adding on to an existing deadfall. I also like digging out a small area in the ground behind one if theirs time before season. Use whats there and you will find deer just walk by instead of haul tail Going to do some field testing with a product I'm trying out this year for the first time: ADVANISH
Tominator
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I do, but I normally hunt out of a tree stand. One of these days I'm going to arrow a deer out of my field, and I'm going to be on the ground when I do it. I'm just itching to put a landowner tag on a deer! Rhino
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? Like GW, I add to existing cover using mostly cut limbs. Electical tape comes in real handy for attaching additional limbs to existing cover and shaping out my shooting holes. Usually takes between 30 minutes and an hour from the time I pick the location until it's ready for hunting, depending on how much additonal cover I add to the ground blind. I've had deer within a couple of steps of my blinds and they never knew I was there. It's amazing how well it works. Here's an outside view of one I made a couple of years ago. This is a week after I built it. Entry was from the back left corner. This location was picked from watching where the deer preferred to feed in this foodplot. It was a great stand for any kind of south wind that bowseason. Here's a view from the inside that same afternoon. I took about 10 minutes and added a few extra small limbs around the shooting holes that day to fill in the gaps from older leaves drying out. I always keep a roll of electrical tape in my fanny pack along with some hand clippers. I killed 2 doe out of this blind in October, 2004 inside the 25 yard line and had 2 doe walk by inside the 5 yard line that I passed while hunting for bucks. I also had quite a few 1 year old to 3 year old bucks between 15 and 30 yards but unfortunately not the mature bucks I was hunting for. If I told you how many deer I saw from this blind you'd never believe me. One afternoon I had 18 deer out in this 2.5 acre foodplot. In 5 afternoon bowhunts, not a single deer ever knew they were in danger.

Awesome spot Rhino, you did a great job and that electrical tape in the fanny pack is an awesome tip for hunters! Thanks for sharing! puffy
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? Have used many different ground set ups in the past using brush piles cut limbs and sometimes acamo net to add brush to. Works well in cases where you don't have a stand option or time restraints. StillLearnin
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? This coming year year I am going to try spot and stalk on deer out in the panhandle of oklahoma. I made it out there last year but is was opening weekend and way to hot. As for a blind there are enough sage brush and plum thickets that you can kneel down anywhere and pretty much be hidden. I can't wait to arrow a deer from the ground!!
Cutter
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I used to use ground blinds exclusively, due to a fear of heights and still use them if a good tree isnt available. 99% of my Muledeer hunting is from groundblinds. buckee
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? Nice set-up Rhino. I love it Mine are along th same lines as Rhino's blind. Making use of available cover is the key to being successful. Blending in is what it's all about. That's why I love Realtree camo products. Here's another little cut-out spot I have. I feel naked sitting there sometimes, but tucked into there, with my Realtree camo, seems to do the trick alright. I've had deer walk right up to me here within 5 ft. hoytguy08
Re: Natural Hunting Blinds??? I enjoy hunting from the ground or a treestand, i shot my first deer from a ground blind, but really i think the best way to keep a deer from pickin u off is to be hidden by a wall of brush and grass, or whatever u can find
