USFWS Offering Reward In Bald Eagle Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is offering a reward for information about the illegal shooting of a bald eagle in St. Lawrence County near Rossie, New York.

The USFWS says an individual found the dead eagle in late March in a field at the intersection of County Route 10 and County Route 3 near the St. Lawrence-Jefferson county line. The eagle was seen alive in the same area several times in November.

The USFWS and New York Department of Environmental Conservation are investigating the shooting and are asking for the public’s assistance.

“We need assistance from anyone who might have seen or heard about what happened,” said USFWS Special Agent Bob Garabedian. “We’re offering a reward of up to $2,500 under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act for information leading to the conviction of the individual or individuals involved.”

Anyone with information on this shooting should contact the USFWS’ Office of Law Enforcement at (518) 431-4341.

Re: This makes me sick....

Did you all know it's a crime to even own an eagle's feather. I think it has to be presented to you from a Native American Chief or something with a signed verification to even own one. A lady sent a tapestry to Hillary Clinton one time that had eagle feathers sewn into it that she had picked up on her property and Hillary turned her in for it.

Bow Joe, I think you have to have a certain amount of Native American blood in you to own eagle feathers. I think it goes for any type of bird of prey, but who know's really? Some hawk feathers look like turkey feathers..

Close. There's a National Eagle Repository where dead eagles are collected by State and Federal Wildlife Agencies and then distributed to registered members of recoginzed Native American tribes. Tribal members can request individual feathers or whole birds. That is the ONLY legal way to obtain eagle parts and the ONLY people who can legally posses them are Native Americans. So the moral of the story is - If you find an eagle feather on the ground, Leave It There!
