elnor
I'm having trouble getting a response from TruGlo customer service and wondered if anyone might have ideas for me. I purchased a Tru•Point Turkey sight on January 20, 2006. I installed it on my shotgun, patterned my gun with approximately 15 shots, and then started hunting with it during turkey season opening day on April 6, 2006. After three days of use, on April 8, the front sight light pipe/fiber optic insert fell out somewhere in the woods. The plastic fastener/spacer and metal piece which holds the pipe were both still in place and tight. Obviously I am very disappointed that the fiber lasted less than three days in the field. And worse, I'm still hunting through early May and desperately need a replacement fiber pipe (or new front sight, if TruGlo can't replace just the fiber) so that I can continue hunting. I've called TruGlo customer service several times in the last three days but been shuttled to voicemail each time. I've left two messages detailing my problem and need for new light pipe and requesting someone call me back asap. I have not yet heard back from anyone and I am going to be back in the field in two days (Monday April 17, 2006). Any suggestions for how I can get their attention and get this resolved immediately? AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Sights that have exposed fiber optics are relatively delicate. They are plastic not metal and need to be cared for. I seriously doubt you will get in touch with them this weekend. Some view this as a holiday weekend, so its not suprising that things can get backlogged. I looked at their web site and found: Q: Do TRUGLO products come with a warranty? A: Yes. We guarantee all of our products to be free from defect for ninety days from purchase. Q: What is the best way to replace a TRUGLO product that is still under warranty? A: Please return the item to the retailer from whom it was purchased. Q: Where can I get replacement parts for my TRUGLO product? A: Many dealers stock replacement parts for our more popular items. You can also contact our customer service department directly. You can get replacement fiber optic rods for a DIY fix. Brownell's has them but you need to know the diameter of the F.O. As for a quick fix to get you back hunting immediately, take them off and use the factory bead.
elnor
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Thanks, AJ. I tried a couple of dealers but neither had replacement parts. Since I hadn't heard back from TruGlo customer service (5 days and counting, argh), I went ahead and bought a "wing" sight that has extra light pipes with it. Inserted one of the new pipes with a little dab of glue to help hold it in place. Hopefully that'll do through the end of this turkey season. I'll reevaluate after that. elnor
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Update: TruGlo customer service never called me back, but I received a package from them with four light pipes yesterday (one week after my initial call). I'm returning the surplus wing sight kit and will be carrying extra pipes with me into the field from now on. And I'm suggesting to TruGlo and other fiber sight makers that they always include extra pipes with every sight they sell, since this seems to be an all too common problem. AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Good to hear they hooked you up. I have a question on your setup, do you have a ported choke tube?
elnor
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert I have a non-ported HS Undertaker Hevi-Shot compatible choke on a late 80's Remington 11-87.
AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert OK, I was thinking if you had a ported choke tube, it could be the cause of the fiber problem.

[/ QUOTE ] Could you explain this more ? My 935 has an extended, ported choke, and also a fiber optic on the barrel. too_
AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert The muzzleblast being redirected by the ports in the choke tube could possibly have a negative effect on an fragile exposed fiber optic. Since I don't have a ported tube and a fiber sight, this is just speculation. It may be fine.
too_pointer
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert You don't have a ported choke tube, or just not the combo tube and fiber optic ?
AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert I ported my barrels not the tube.
vagobbln
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert You might want to put a dab of fletching cement or something similar on that front sight. Just in case.
too_pointer
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert AJ, I forgot I might think about putting a touch of glue on my optics, since my choke is ported !! Good idea va too_
AJ
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Be careful on what type of glue you use. The cyanoacrylate CA glues will melt plastic. They can also leave a white residue that will reduce the light transmission. I would use something like Fletch-Tite not the super glue stuff. vagobbln
Re: TruGlo service and missing fiber insert Yeah, Fletch-tite is what I meant. It will stay soft and somewhat pliable whereas the Superglue types would be very rigid and probably would melt the sight pin. My bad.
