Turkeygirl
If anyone from or even not from NY could give me some suggestions, I'd really appreciate it! Monday I'm planning to go to the one section of state land near by to try and find some turkeys. I've always hunted farmland that I have permission on but since there is only like 1 gobbler and a couple hens moving from the farmland to land I can't hunt, I've decided to try and get out and scout state land to hunt. Obviously I'm worried about the youth season and losing any turkeys then and of course like the first week when everyone is out hunting. I'm getting some maps printed off topozone.com to get a lay of the area but I'd really like any suggestions on how I should go about looking/where I should look because the state land is alot bigger than the farmland I hunt, I don't know it, and I don't want to get lost. I have a compass, just have to remember how to use it. Anyway I'd like to have an idea how many gobblers are out there and where before the season so please help me! Thanks friends! Turk.....learn to read a compass...its imporant....sometimes birds will get you turned around..or get a GPS....anyways...do what i do, when you don't know where your really going, but.have an idea.......locator Calls only!!!!!! Crow or w/e...no turkey calling to the birds..all that does is educate them, locate a few birds..mark it on your map , but rememeber after a few days of being pressured...the birds will get tough....Honkers44
