hangunnr
Trigger locks are a somewhat controversial topic. While no one wants to see a child access a firearm, they do render your defense arm virtually useless in a time of need. I don't use one on my in-house weapon. I have educated my children in the use of firearms and all of their dangers. I don't feel that they have any desire to play with them. They know that my pistol is off limits and they respect that. When my two girls were small I did keep the weapon and clip seperate but easily obtainable. There are several combination lock boxes out there that can be mounted around your bed or wherever. They allow you to store your firearm loaded with no possible access to anyone that dosen't have the combination. I would have to think they would be a faster access option then a trigger lock. Here is a link to check out. www.gunvault.com hangunnr [ 03-21-2002, 08:01 AM: Message edited by: hangunnr ]
ParrotHead
Re: Do you keep a trigger lock on you\'re pistol My whole stance on this is if you render your home protection useless, then why even have it at all? I hear guys all the time talk about home protection in the form of a gun and it's usually locked away somewhere, out of reach of everyone, this isn't home protection in my mind. All but one of my guns are locked away in a safe. I keep one loaded and easily accessable if I need it. Right now, my child doesn't have a clue as to where it's at or even that it's there. I'll continue to teach him good safe techniques and in doing so, hopefully take away any curiosity that he may have about guns. Education is the first step folks, then practial knowledge of the firearm and good "on-hands" teaching. Take away the curiosity factor, insteal proper techniques and last insteal the fear factor of there father upon them if they're ever caught goofing off with a gun. Most of you grew up with guns in the house just as I did. What was the most scary thing about having a gun around? For me, it was my father if he caught me playing one! Strut10
Re: Do you keep a trigger lock on you\'re pistol My defense home-weapon is ready to rock AT ALL TIMES..............no trigger locks. My kids have no access to it (and when I test 'em by unloading it and leaving it lay somewhere, they'll come tell me to put it away). All the rest of my guns are locked in a safe. Teach your kids young. My 8 year old girl can shoot my Glock 23 40 SW. She would not dream of even looking at it if I did not hand it to her myself and supervise her. I firmly believe there's no such thing as an "accidental shooting". "Unintentional shootings" all go back to ignorance of, and/or disregard to, the principles of safe gun handling. Strut10
Re: Do you keep a trigger lock on you\'re pistol I forgot to add that it is still physically impossible for my kids to work the slide on my defense pistol (Glock29 10mm). It takes way more hand strength than either of them has. So long as there's not a round in the chamber it's harmless. Even so, I keep it in a place accessible only by me and the Mrs.
flyrod64
Re: Do you keep a trigger lock on you\'re pistol Well everyone, my belief is if you raise your kids right you shouldn't have to worry about it. I keep mine in a cabinet most of the time except for the one under the truck seat. If they are out I dont worry, but I will put em up if we have company. My daughters are 12 and 18 and they wont even move em out of thier way unless they ask me first. It's not because they are afraid of em, I just taught em growing up that there not to be played with. My 12 year old isnt allowed to shoot her BB gun unless I'm with her. She abides by my rules and we have no problems. Thats why she now has a 30-30 and a 410 also!
