Re: New Rod?

I've never fished out west, but since no one else is posting grin.gif I'll try to help.

I would think a 3 weight fly rod would be good, and is your spin casting, a short (5 or 6 foot) light action rod??

PM Andymansavage, I know he lives out west on fishing for trout.

Re: New Rod?

If you are looking at fly fishing, I would reccomend a good light 5 wt rod. Any good brand will do.

Baitcasting rods are not really usefull for trout except for trolling because most lures are lighter than those baitcasting equipment is made for.

As for spinning rods, I prefer 6 1/2- 7 ft rods with medium light action. I usually take a 7 ft med action rod for spoons and crankbaits and a 6 1/2 ft light rod for "fly and bubble" and spinning or jigging. It all depends on the type of fishing you plan to do. As far as brands, Fenwick is great and any rod with IM7 or higher graphite and blank through handle construction will provide the sensitivity needed for any spinning application. Stick with 6 pound or less mono line and a reel with a good smooth drag and you should be fine.

Hope this helps, let me know if you want more info.

Re: New Rod?

I'm partial to a fenwick myself. It has a good feel to it and I love the action. I have an 8ft 5wt and a 9ft pack rod. As was already said, any good brand name is good, and the St. croix are excellent. One thing I know about the fenwicks is that they stand by thier warranty. My first one was a 8ft handmade glass rod. I slammed it shut in the door tongue.gif. When I sent it to them and told them how I broke, that particular rod was no longer available so they let me have any rod they made at cost. I got an 8ft eagle. I broke it fishing one day and sent it back and they replaced it. No hassel in either case. You can't beat service like that! grin.gif

Regardless of what style of fishing you plan to do, you can't go wrong with a St. Croix wink.gif

I will definitely agree with that statement. Thats all I own now, for the quality and price you cant beat them. I've even had a few break (my fault) and got them replaced for free no questions asked.
