Steve [/ QUOTE ] You'll find that out next season now that they seem to have found a decent goalie in Thomas... And I'll wager that they will pick themselves up a couple decent scorers as well during the off season....

SaskMan
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread I felt Buffalo was a sleepr all along. I'd like to see them win another round. Maybe the oil will get to the finals as well, it'd make superguide happy. His "eurotrasheans" are getting the job done. lol
superguide
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Don't think Ryan Smythe is a European lol. Ottawa needs to get some leadership-I'd be dumping Hasek and getting someone like Shanahan to teach that team what it needs to win. Alot of teams with European captains getting upset-not a coincidance I'm thinking.

[/ QUOTE ] I predicted to my friends who were watching the game with me --- 2 minutes and 31 seconds - the Sens would be getting the golf clubs ready well I missed it by 15 seconds the way the game ended was just plain aweful -- looked like it was bought and paid for

[/ QUOTE ] I don't see it as a major upset. Look back in past playoff history. I believe the record is Sabres 10 Senators 1 in playoff competition since 1997. The Senators win the other night ended a 9 game losing streak for them against the Sabres in playoff competition. This is no doubt one of the best team if not the best team ever in the Sabres history.
SaskMan
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Some people forget that Buffalo had 104 points. Maybe they flew a bit under the radar but a solid club in my books. As for Ottowa, I wouldn't blame thier loss on their Swedish captain superguide. He does know how to win an olympic medal. Maybe we should point a finger at Iginla in Calgary too or Sakic in Colorado. I was just wondering if you were starting to lighten up a bit on those guys on your oil squad and was talking about Hemsky and Samsonov, you know the guys that won game 6 against Detroit and caused a giant momentum swing in game 6 against the sharks. You can't hate them forever, especially when they're helping your team win. lol
superguide
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Ottawa has to get somebody of any lineage on the bench that has won-they've got a tradition of losing that's hard to break-I seem to remember a guy from Edmonton chipping in a couple goals in game six too if I rememnber right-Europeans are great players but they just aren't the warriors in the playoffs for the most part though I have to admit the two the oilers have both have got some game. One European that has impressed me this playoffs is Selanne-that guy can smell his first Cup. I don't hate them-I just hate people putting them ahead of North American players skill wise which they aren't-they showed Stall's highl;ight goals last night-every bit as pretty as Ovechkin's. superguide
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread The Oilers are winning because everybody on their bench is willing to sacrifice the body to win-that's a coaches dream-18 skaters all giving 110 percent-Ottawa needs to get that going on their bench. The next round of hockey is going to be incredible no matter whose playing in it.

superguide
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Boy Toskala played great or it would of been a real blood letting-I thought the officiating was pretty bad both ways-took some intensity out of the game but the Oil was full value for the win. MUDRUNNER
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Congrats to the Oilers! That was a hard fought game. I would love to see the Oil win the cup.In my book they were the underdog from the start. They barely squeked in to the playoffs and nobody thought they would beat Detroit. superguide
Re: Official 2006 NHL Playoff/Stanley Cup thread Ahmmmmm some of us never lost faith-all the Oil needed was a goalie and they got one now. Gonna be tough next series got a local boy playing for Anaheim but still going to cheer for the Oilers. Mind would be nice to visit Lord Stanley again-that was wayyyy cool when Friesen brought it home from New Jersey-it's gotta be the coolest trophy in sport.
