Guest motorcop7
Finally drew the early season and can actually go hunting this year. Have planned to go for the last 3 years but something always came up. Anyways, I wondered how late in the evening do you hunt before you try to locate birds for the next day ? I'm a deer hunter so i'm used to hunting until dark but i know this won't work for turkey. Thanks in advance.

MrWiggely
Re: When do you quit for the evening ? I quit a noon here cause the law says so. Normally when I try and locate birds it is half hour before dark, and I listen until full dark. If I call at all it is with an owl hooter or coyote call. Rhino
Re: When do you quit for the evening ? Here at home when I'm hunting the afternoon and planning on trying to roost a bird that evening for the hunt next morning I usually quit hunting at least an 1 1/2 hours before dark. That way I"ll have time to slip out of where I am and get to where I want to be to try to roost a bird. At home at least I prefer not to hunt too close to where I expect the birds to roost so I won't risk messing the birds up on their roosting patterns. It really depends on where your trying to roost a bird for the next morning though. If you're already pretty close to where you are trying to roost a bird you might as well sit tight and listen from where you are until the birds are tucked in for the evening. That way you won't risk busting them trying to leave.
Strut10
Re: When do you quit for the evening ? I quit at noon. Have to due to our laws. If I'm in another state, I hunt from kin 'til cain't.
wtnhunt
Re: When do you quit for the evening ? When the sun sets. Guess if I ever have some birds roost nearby, I would probably wait until after dark to leave.
borch
Re: When do you quit for the evening ? I hunt as late as the law allows. Often the birds travel patterns are more predictable later in the day.
