Finally drew the early season and can actually go hunting this year. Have planned to go for the last 3 years but something always came up. Anyways, I wondered how late in the evening do you hunt before you try to locate birds for the next day ? I'm a deer hunter so i'm used to hunting until dark but i know this won't work for turkey. Thanks in advance.

Re: When do you quit for the evening ?

Here at home when I'm hunting the afternoon and planning on trying to roost a bird that evening for the hunt next morning I usually quit hunting at least an 1 1/2 hours before dark. That way I"ll have time to slip out of where I am and get to where I want to be to try to roost a bird. At home at least I prefer not to hunt too close to where I expect the birds to roost so I won't risk messing the birds up on their roosting patterns.

It really depends on where your trying to roost a bird for the next morning though. If you're already pretty close to where you are trying to roost a bird you might as well sit tight and listen from where you are until the birds are tucked in for the evening. That way you won't risk busting them trying to leave.
