First Turkey!

A buddy and me went out on Tuesday April 18th. At 6:05 am we heard two gobblers gobble from a hardwood ridge about 300 yards off. We eased through a pine thicket to get to the top edge of the hardwood ridge. My buddy hit the crow call and both longbeards responded. This time they were only 100 yards away and on the ground. We quickly sat up two hen decoys. My buddy sat up behind me approximately 20 yards and handled the calling. At 6:30 three longbeards crested the top of the ridge 40 yards from me behind some brush. I watched them strut for 15 minutes and everytime my buddy would cutt the cut him off with a gobble! At 6:45 am my buddy cutt again and the lead bird ran out into an opening. My buddy cutt again and the lead bird raised his head and I squeezed the trigger. As soon as the bird hit the ground, we both started cutting and yelping in an attempt to get the other two birds to stick around so my buddy and I could double. One of the birds stop for a couple of seconds, but realized that discretion is the better part of valor. In 40 minutes into my 4th day turkey hunting this year (4th year seriously turkey hunting) I harvested my First Bird! He weighed 18 lbs, 10" beard, and 3/4" spurs.
