Swamphunter
I have seen a couple of questions about pin set-ups for sighting in answered by T-bone and his response has been if your bow shoots above 250fps, sight in with, and use only 1 pin at maybe 25 - 30 yards. My current PSE Diamondback II shoots at exactly 250. I just purchased a Mathews Switchback XT and expect the fps to be a bit higher. What type of trajectory can I expect and is this something you guys can pull off with your set-ups? How high are you at 20 and how low at 40 if your shooting above 250fps and sighted in for 30 yards? Thanks
BowJoe
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... Not much of a difference, but I still like to have at least a 3 pin setup. I use 20, 30, 40. I may go to a 50 pin this season as well if I get my accuracy going good. I would say it's about the height of the deer's chest cavity for 20-30 and of course a lot more difference from 30-40 and so on. I have the Outback by the way, so I shoot at about 260-280fps. Not bad, but I'd trust my pins more than my own judgement on placement.
Guest deadeye270
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... If you sighted in at thirty.... at 20 you would be about 3-4in high, @ 40 you would be about 4-5 in low.

huntinguide
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... i shoot a 5 pin copper john on my switchback and it shoots real flat. There are times where ill aim with the wrong pin say 30 at a 40 and cant really tell a big diff maybe 2 low but i say youd be good 10-20-30. im thinking of going to a one pin adj. any sug? hutchies
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... I shoot a Copper John 5 pin on my Illusion. If I use the wrong pin 20yard at 30 yards it is normally 3 inches low.
kooter
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... i only like to have one pin set at 25 yards. all of my shots have been less that 30 so i dont have to worry about it. I know where to hold for a 40 yard shot if needed.
Guest PAT_PATTERSON
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... I shoot a single pin slider HHA, I set mine at 25 yards for hunting. I shoot pretty much dead on from 20 to 30 yards@ 270 fps. Not much drop, I shoot a 471 gr arrow. Now out past 30 yards I see a definite drop so I would have to adjust my slider, but very seldom would I think of a 40ish yard shot. Terrain and comfort level dictates my maximum shot yardage as well as limitations of equipment.
Rhino
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... Swampy back when I shot an adjustable sight (before T Bone times) I hunted with my adjustable set at 20 yards and only moved it for shooting at a deer at a greater known distance. That bow's speed was 254 fps with an alluminum arrow that weighed a total of 534 grains, including the broadhead. I practiced out to 35 yards with my sight set at 20 with my 3D target just in case a deer moved not offering a clear shot after I came to full draw. I did the same thing with my sight set at 30 too. My hold over for a heart shot worked out this way with that bow out to 35 yards with my adjustable sight set at 20 yards. At 25 - center of deer; at 30 - base of spine; and at 35 - top of back. Anything over 35 was aiming above the back so 35 yards was my limit for my pin set at 20. With a little practice you should be able to lock in on an aiming point to hit right where you want to at your choice of pin setting. I had the other situation figured out back then if I set my pin for 30 too but honestly don't remember exactly what it was now. Too many years ago now. I'm a 3 fixed pin sight guy now on my latest compound shooting carbon arrows. I can't see worth a flip anymore inside arms length without my reading glasses. [/ QUOTE ] This is about where I am at only I was thinking about setting a pin at 25 dead on, and then limiting my shooting to 30, maybe 35. That is my maximun shot here anyways. I just don't want to be real high at 15 or anything because most of my shooting is at 15-25 yards. Would prefer to have a flatter trajectory and 1 pin. VtBowhunter
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... I have a Hoyt Vtec, and sighted in at 25, I'm 1.5" high at 20, and 2" low at 30. That's at 270 FPS.

Guest tyshe17
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... your biggest problem with one pin set at 25 or so would be really close shots from a treestand. For instance. I shot a deer this past year about 7 yds from the tip of my arrow to the deer (nikon rangefinder 440 wouldn't range the arrow in the ground after the shot). On this deer I had a 17-18 yd pin (set dead on for the range at Bass Pro). I held it on the bottom body line of the deer, and it went in just below the spine...the same hold with a pin set at 25 and I would guess I would have shot over the deer. Im not saying dont do it, just saying know how your bow is shooting at really close range. If you are set up correctly (treestand location) you will will have more shots inside of 15 than you will over 30.
VtBowhunter
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... It will still be just fine......you just need to aim lower.
Adjam5
Re: T-bone and 1 pin suggestions... I also use a single pin sight on my Mathews Outback. I am in the kill zone at 35 yards. I won't take shots that far, my shots are much closer generally in the 15-25 yard range. 80% of my bowhunting is done from a treestand. I like the single pin no guesswork, but ya need a fast bow to do it with. Here is a pic of my single pin TruGlo sight. Good luck and hunt safe!
