Had to deal with dial-up for the past few years. A couple months ago DSL became available in my area. All I can say is it is awesome. Somedays my home interenet is faster than at my work.

Sure wish something else was available here. Between the slow dialup and this old wore out computer, it gets pretty frustrating sometimes. Couple hundred yards away from us on another road parallel to us where the airport is at, I am sure they have dsl. Had my hopes up they would run it down this road, but they wont.

Griz,

Check & see if anyone has wireless available in your area.

I was back on dial-up till about a week ago whan someone told my dad about Illicom's "high speed" wireless. I looked them up on the net Illicom.com & saw that they were available in our area, they claim 128Mbps, it's not bad! I figured it would be just a little faster than dial-up.. boy, was I wrong! lol I downloaded a 98MB file the other day & it only took about 15 minutes!

Good luck, I hope you find something faster! Phil B.

Here is what I got on Intel's Broadband speed test. [image]Intel_Broadband_Speed_Test.jpg[/image]

Re: I-----HATE-----DIAL-UP!!!!!!

I have cable hear in college and it is fast. We get a special deal $20 for the first 5 months then $40 a month for the next 4. divide that by two people and it isn't too bad and on a good day my connection is just as fast as the T1 the shcool offers.

Now If i was just 150 yards closer to campus I could pick up that signal for free!!!

Re: I-----HATE-----DIAL-UP!!!!!!

When I first started using a computer & the internet in 1997; I also had Dial-up. Now after I bought my current PC which has windows XP; I switched over to Broadband cable connection. It seems, and most "IT's" will agree, that with the newer PC's, the only way to benifit fully from your more up-to-date PC is to subscribe to Broadband connection. Unfortunately broadban is not available everywhere yet. I for one would give up using the internet if I had to return to S-L-O-W dial-up connection.
