huntinguide
Had a good day to shoot today, no wind finally. You cant hardly shoot the 17 with wind, well you could but not with very goo dresults. Shot a couple rounds to get going then laid prone and shot a 5 shot 100 yard group, then a 200 yard 5 shot group aswell. I shoot a H+R with a BSA 8-32 mil dot. I hold dead on @ 100 and use the first dot @ 200, still a little low. Ive only had this thing for a couple of months and cant shoot it enough, its to fun, i think my pellet gun has more recoil than this thing. FUN FUN FUN H+R BSA 8-32 Platinum 100 yards 200 yards

huntinguide
Re: 17 HMR targets not if you want to eat them, even with the solids it is dirty.
DannoBoone1
Re: 17 HMR targets It is absolutely accurate enough to head shoot squirrels (as your target would suggest). I've shot both head shots and lung shots without tearing up any edible meat. Messy? YES! But all the good meat was unharmed.
huntinguide
Re: 17 HMR targets really, ive honestly never really hunted with it with intentions to eat, just pest control.

OJR
Re: 17 HMR targets That is some good shooting! Too bad the bullets are so light and prone to be blown all over the place with a little breeze!
hutchies
Re: 17 HMR targets I head shot some squirrels and jackrabbits. Meat was still edible if you eat jackrabbit. I don't but the squirrel was good.
huntinguide
Re: 17 HMR targets when i first got the 17 i was shooting it in about a 5-10 mph breeze at 75 or so and the groups were tight but about 4 inches to the right. hutchies
Re: 17 HMR targets I have never straight put a yote down with my .17 but I did take one out. It took 2 or 3 shots. One thing I like is the cows don't freak out when I fire off the .17 compared to my .30-06.
huntinguide
Re: 17 HMR targets i have personally seen the 17 down a yote @ 150 yards, my buddy and i were just shooting down at a river when we jumped one. it ran out and stopped so he shot and droped it. when we got there he had hit it in the neck killed it dead. I guess they have enough to paralize at 150. it worked any way
hutchies
Re: 17 HMR targets Yep, He hit spine. You shoot one in the ear you will get the same affect. I was shooting for the heart. If I get a bullet in them they are going to die somewhere. I might not find them but they will bleed out and die.
huntinguide
Re: 17 HMR targets yup youd be suprised what theyll go through, i was shooting some fed hollowpoints at a 2x6 and they went all the way through
AJ
Re: 17 HMR targets [ QUOTE ] when i first got the 17 i was shooting it in about a 5-10 mph breeze at 75 or so and the groups were tight but about 4 inches to the right. [/ QUOTE ] The shooting to the right was not the wind. It may have been if you were shooting at 200 yards, but at 75? Nope. I have shot in 20 mph wind at 100 yards and the groups open to 1". The fast velocity will allow the bullet to less affected by the wind compared to a heavier slower bullet.
too_pointer
Re: 17 HMR targets You would think the opposite, that the heavier bullet would plow through the wind
AJ
Re: 17 HMR targets It's all dealing with velocity. The slower the object, the less time the wind has to effect it. Everything is effected by wind, even a huge and heavy 747 jet airliner. It still gets blown around by crosswinds. The wind is a constant, the distance is a constant, the time of flight is what makes the difference.
