LETMGROW
into this country would be my policy NOW! Not after we find imported birds are a source of bird flu. We should stop all birds from being loaded onto any plane bound for North America ... If we want to advert an outbreak why wouldn't we ban the importation! ?? slugshooter
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED Are we going to ban everyone from entering America that lives in a country where there has been a case of bird flu? If bird flu does become a pandemic, which, to me seems unlikely because the common cold spreads faster than this has. Birds aren't what we are going to have to worry about. What we'll have to worry about is the disease hitching a ride with someone who has been infected and then bringing it back here to infect everyone else. And the person doesn't necessarily have to be a foreigner either, many American's travel overseas every day for business and pleasure. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen, I just hope our friends at the CDC have come up with a vaccine by then.

stevebeilgard
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED fact is, i'd like to see all non native species banned from import. non native species are killing off our wildlife.
wtnhunt
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED Problem is even without importation of birds, speculations say that by next year the flu will have gotten here by being carried across the Bering Strait by birds migrating. Also like sluggo mentions, it is probably pretty likely that someone who is infected will slip through into this country with the flu from overseas, if it has not already happened. wtnhunt
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED Think it is a bit of paranoia too Mark. Right now there should probably be more serious concerns about some of these other outbreaks, like the mumps in the mid portion of this country. Right now there should probably be more serious concerns about some of these other outbreaks, like the mumps in the mid portion of this country [/ QUOTE ] Yep, mumps had hit over 800 people here in iowa as of last week.Menengitis has killed 2 young kids in this area in the last couple months and a bunch of others have survived it. Near as i can tell from the death tolls with the bird flu its really mostly only to the birds. It kills relatively few people.I thought mumps had been pretty well eradicated untill recently so Id rather see them focus more on whats killing people now then what could happen down the road but thats just me
BowJoe
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED Depends on the severity of what's killing people now and later. Dead is dead, it just matters how much you can fight one or the other.
wtnhunt
Re: No BIRDS ALLOWED Bet the CDC has their hands full right about now. The mumps outbreak, and the beginning of the west nile season are pretty serious. I am afraid that this years west nile problems with the extremely mild winter in the southeast are destined to be one of the worst years yet seen.
