I agree --------- I have always had Norton, last week the supscription ran out so I decided to change and try McAfee -- and so far I don't like it mad.gif

it doesn't even load properly sometimes ----- the computer is going to the shop tommorow for some repairs to see what is wrong

Re: best computer virus protection ?

McAfee , to me is the worst program out there,, and Nortons is getting to be a real resource hog in itself, not to say renewal fee's are getting expensive.... crazy.gifcrazy.gif

This is why I starting testing the AVG AntiVirus, I'm telling ya folks check it out, what have you got to loose ???? It's a great free program with NO adds... wink.gif

McAfee, is a downright rip-off. I got a virus and it cost me over $300.00 in toll calls with their people trying to get rid of it.

Their support sucks!

I now have Norton and wont change.

Don't use Internet Explorer. Get Mozilla Firefox. Most people use internet explorer so most people will right viruses for internet explorer. It won't get into your system through Mozilla. Mozilla also has extensions like ad block, spam block and script block which all protect your computer and make it run faster.

Explorer and Outlook also have these features if you know where and how to activate them... wink.gif

If you think your Windows based computer is more protected from viruses by running Mozzila you are going to be very dissapointed..... wink.gifwink.gif

Re: best computer virus protection ?

I used to use Norton. Liked it but seemed to be very obtrusive. Had a couple problems with it at times & would have to uninstall & reinstall it & worked fine. It is very good though. I agree that the grisoft one is very good. As of now I am using SecureIT. I have it thru my internet provider at a cost of $4 a month. It has everything. It is gauranteed,if a virus gets in your computer & does any harm they will take care of it. So far I think it is great. I really like it.

I use AVG now. Had norton, and have also had mcafee. I use spybot search and destroy for my spyware program.

On Norton, had heard on the news that symantec with their software installs some stuff on your computer that cannot be removed. I have some norton stuff on my computer that I have tried to remove related to norton, and it is still there. Will never buy anything from symantec or mcafee ever again.

I run AVG and Mozilla FireFox. AVg works great and no lag. Firefox is just a great break from the norm and more personalized. I like forecast fox. I keep this forum on my tabs bar at all times along with Nascar, Yahoo, Countrytabs and Pogo. Gotta love the graphics for FireFox.

Re: best computer virus protection ?

The AVG is good, but the free version is too labor intensive for me. For the more computer savvy person, it is an excellent choice. Microsoft has a Beta version antivirus / anti spyware program called Windows One Care available on their website. Not sure how long it will be free. I use PC tools antivirus and i really like it. Costs $29.99 a year and is very user friendly. I also use Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware SE personal anti spyware. Both are very good and free! Here is an excellent web site for evaluating and downloading various anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. www.download.com. Lot's of good stuff here! grin.gif

Re: best computer virus protection ?

Randyman, I had the free version PCtools virus protection on my system for about 24-25 days.

I geuss it depends on what your system has in it because I ended up with problems.

Sticking pages, ghost windows, and slow download speed...something I'm not used to with my Cable IP service. The problems would dissappear after a short time but I would still get temporary locking pages.

After reading this post and trying out the free AVG program...back to normal speed, no wait downloads, and zero ghost windows!

Again I really think it has to do more with what your system has for file types.

I'll probably buy the AVG program before the trial period runs out.

I always delete Temporary Internet files(and all offline content), History, and I also run Ad-Aware SE after almost every Internet session...Along with defragmenting the hard drive at least twice a week.

grin.gif After all of that I still think I have a ROOT Virus...I keep getting this annoying pop-up:
