Guest Renegade
New york youth season was a great sucess for me this year. We roosted a nice gobbler the day b4 and knew were he was. the weather called for rain all day saturday but we went anyway. we sat up about 50 yards from the gobbler that wouldnt stop gobblin the night b4 but wen we got there he was silent. we wathched him fly down the opposite side of the tree we were sitting at and he wouldnt gobble. so we waited calling softly. next thing u know i look behind me and there they were standing in the fireld just standing there he wasnt strutting or gobblin. so i called and they started comming. i thought they were gonna come in range but they vered off into the woods. Me n my dad had no idea on were they were heading so we got our stuff together n headed the way they did. we cam up on a big open field so we walked into it and looked on the other side n there they were. we backed into the woods n called softly n he finally gobbled. so we set up and waited. within 5 minutes a hen came up about 10 yrds 2 my left and saw me. she took off i thought our hunt was over. But i yelped again n he gobbled back so we waited. i couldnt see him because there was a slight dip in the field so i waited for him 2 come up out of it. next thing i know my dad said there he is. i looked up n about 35 yrds stood a full fanned tom. without any thought i raised up my gun and shot him. he had a 8 and 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spers. What a Great hunt

western NY bowhunter
Re: Ny Youth season a great sucsess Way to get it done! I was supposed to take my uncle's step-son out this weekend but he bailed on me at the last minute to hunt with his dad. I guess they didn't hear a thing. Too bad, yesterday morning I went scouting at the winery's propery where I was planning on taking him to and had 4-5 birds gobbling all around me. I'm thinking that I'm gonna be set-up at the woods in at the bottom of this field on opening morning . Come on May 1st!!!! I did get to listen in on a youth hunt in progress at my buddies farm yesterday morning. The people have never asked for permission to hunt there. Anyways, there was a bird gobbling close to the calling in the woods but I didn't hear a shot. There were 3 jakes hammering at them from up above in the pasture. Next thing I know here comes a guy and 3 kids trying to sneak in on the jakes. My buddy said that he heard a shot out there while he was milking. Hopefully, it was one of the 8 jakes that I've been watching there and not the big longbeard that I've got my eye on.
