Shaun_300
I was just wondering... I have a Remington 870 Wingmaster 12ga, with a 26" barrel chambered for 2 3/4" only. Is is possible to buy a barrel chambered for 3" for my gun and shoot 3"? Or do I have to have the 870 "Magnum" Series gun? I'd like to get my turkey course and start hunting turkeys, I think 3" would be a better choice for them rather than a 2 3/4" shell.
Guest Xen
Re: Probably a stupid question, but... you can get a 3" barrel and shoot 3" shells, but a 2 3/4 will do the job. don't buy in to the hype that the more bb's you can throw at them the better. i have a gun that will shoot 3 1/2" mags, but i rarely shoot anything more than 2 3/4" shells in it, just because i like the lower amounts of recoil. AJ
Re: Probably a stupid question, but... [ QUOTE ] you can get a 3" barrel and shoot 3" shells, [/ QUOTE ] Not exactly. The older 870 receivers were made for 2 3/4" ammo and the magnums were made for the 2 3/4" or 3" ammo. While its not a matter of strength, it is a matter of the location of the ejector. The magnum and modern versions of the 870 have the ejector moved back to allow the longer hulls to clear. The older 2 3/4" guns will not eject a 3" hull even if you get a 3" chambered barrel. You can have a gunsmith install a new extractor. That runs about $70 or so without blueing on the rivets.
