monsterbucks1
i am looking into buying a winchester sx2 universal or a remington 1187 sps-t super mag what do you guys think of these guns and which one would be the one to go for, i do both turkey and waterfowl hunting. AJ
Re: which gun should i go for It depends on which one fits you best. Both are decent quality guns and when taken care of properly, will function just fine. I have the 11-87 Super Mag and it works well for me. Tominator
Re: which gun should i go for I've never shouldered a Winchester, but I can tell you just about every Remington I've shouldered is a bit too long for me. I think their length of pull is 14 1/4" which is a hair too long. Throw them both to your shoulder and see what you think.
AJ
Re: which gun should i go for Actually, the 11-87 has a 14" LOP and the Winchester has a 14.25" LOP. It's an easy fix to make it fit you though. Nothing a saw and a new pad won't fix.
too_pointer
Re: which gun should i go for monster, you might look at the Mossberg 935 Magnum. I have one, and it will handle the 3" and 3 1/2 " loads. It isn't made to shoot lesser 2 3/4" loads though. I am also a Remington fan, so check them all out with what fits you good too_
Guest Xen
Re: which gun should i go for cut my teeth on an 1100... then went to an 11-87, which is pretty much the same as the 1100. shot those very well for years and would still recommend them to anybody. you'll find that the more shooting you do with on, the more you will get to really know the gun. you'll actually hear the gun cycling the shell, it's pretty neat. i ended up going to an o/u when i was shooting doubles in skeet because the gun was to slow on cycling the shell. then again, that was when i was young and fast

LETMGROW
Re: which gun should i go for With Winchester being on shaky ground , I might shy away a bit until I know they are going to be around if you had a problem. Just food for thought. My .
strubedog
Re: which gun should i go for No one has a better idea of what a gun can handle for hunting loads then a waterfowl guide. Most guides will tell you the winchester sx2 is one of the most reliable guns they see in the blind.

huntinguide
Re: which gun should i go for well i have done my fair share of waterfowl guiding and hunting and from expierence i will say that i have seen just about every gun used imagionable. I have never had a client shoot a new winchester, i do see the Benelli, Beretta, Brownings all the time, and a few remingtons, if i had to choose between the two i would say go with the rem. its just a good gun. Guest hookedonhunting
Re: which gun should i go for Ive got the remington 11-87 sps (3 in) and have shot deer, ducks, quail, pheasant, turkey etc......... and even after having the action half full of mud after dropping it in the swamp it still (like always) performs flawlessly. i own 2 11-87's and an 1100 and have never had any problems with them after thousands and thousands of rounds ran through them. well, i had one jam once while shooting skeet but it was just a freak thing. I give the 11-87 5 stars.
huntinguide
Re: which gun should i go for rem does make a great gun for shure. if i was to recomend a gun to some one on reliablility and price it would be a rem super mag, it does it all. you wouldnt believe some of the guns i would see while guiding quail hunts, these guys where shooting guns that cost more than a new truck. HAHAHA

HAHAHA [/ QUOTE ] I believe you! I guided a bunch for a 2 day quail hunt last January and one of them had a 1920's era Browning automatic and another had a 28 guage side by side (think it was from about that same period) A.H. Fox.
