I have had bearded hens in my gun sights before during spring season and knowing they where hens that would produce young , they got a free a pass. They actually trapped 600 birds last fall to thin them out and take else where. So in that case I didnt mind taken a Hen! There are PLENTY others! Thank you everyone for there input! Have been watching two bearded hens behind my house for the last three years.One has a three inch,the other has a six to seven inch beard.Never shot them because I didn't know if they would breed or not.Still fun to watch them. [/ QUOTE ] Actually, somewhere between 10 to 20 percent of hens are bearded. Some say that they are the best brooders too. I guess because typically they are the older hens.
