huntinsonovagun
Re: What do you think. Is there a place to attach your spotlight? Maybe you could make an outlet for it that will swivel with the chair, instead of getting all tangled...

jcwa
Re: What do you think. He's right. The light is attached to the shooting rail, but I'm also thinking about rigging a hand held light to shine around with until I spot one, then switch to the rail mounted light. It would be faster to catch a predator coming in. I'm also thinking about building it to come completely apart. It would make it easer to setup, load and unload. Jeramie
Re: What do you think. I believe that it sets on the rails of the truck. The only problem I see is that with the plate to span the truck the platform will be very, very heavy and cumbersome. Have you though about making it to where you can just slide it into the drop hitch and have two outriggers back to the bed for stability? [/ QUOTE ] Yes I thought about it, but to get the height I would need to shine the light over the front of the truck, I would need outriggers instead of using straps. I want to keep as much of the light as I can off of the truck.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: What do you think. I would cover the floor of the platform where your feet go with expanded metal. Unless you're planning to use a rechargable spotlight on the shooting rest, you'll need to figure out a way to keep the power cord from wrapping around your legs as you pivot. Jeramie
Re: What do you think. Here is a basic Idea. Obviously it can be improved. This would allow you to use the drop hitch drop a TON of weight from the solid plate idea... Keep in mind Autocad isnt a sketch program... jcwa
Re: What do you think. That looks great. The only problem I have with it is, it is at the back end of the truck. When I spin around to check to see if anything is coming from the front, I would be lighting up the cab of the truck. The stand I have now sits closer to the cab and I don't light up the truck. The only problem I have with it is it's a little heavy. Here is a pic of the one I have now.
Jeramie
Re: What do you think. Ahhh! Very wise grasshopper! Keeping that in mind Ill scratch around. I love thinking about new things... Im not sure if youll really gain anything from it or not but ill sure scratch my head a little on that one! Again, my only concern with the original design is the weight and wast of the bed.....
