Hey guys!

2004 - 2 bow birds

2005 - no bow birds (bad luck)

2006 - missed one bow bird at 20 yards

2006 (continued)- getting frustrated and went out at 3 PM and bought a gun license (I'll show those birds!!!!!! frown.gif) So much for the bow!

4 PM in the woods to a place I have not yet bow hunted (top secrect location). 4:20 sleeping under an apple tree and hear a noise... hen coming up the fence line. She checks out my decoys and notices something different under the apple tree. She walks up to 3 yards of me and trys to figure out what I am. I am really trying hard not to burst out laughing. After a minute or two of preening her feathers and shaking the dust off of herself (all at three yards) she walks off. The hen was the coolest part of the entire hunt.

5:15 hear a gobble about 500 yards away in the woods. I call ... he steps out into the freshly planted cornfield. Nothing between me and him except 400 yards of DIRT (and a few decoys). After some strutting decides to head my way. I think it is so cool when they go into that "TROT" as they head for the decoys. That beard swaying back and forth is an awesome sight. I have hunted these birds long enough to know that when they start "trotting" in, they are going to be dead soon.

After watching him cross the 400 yards of dirt he starts to strut and spit and drum at about 30 yards. I enjoy the preformance and let him get to 25 yards. He then lifts his head and the story ends. 12 gauge.. 2 3/4 ... #4 are plenty to kill a turkey at 25 yards with a head/neck shot.

21 lbs 13 ozs. / 10 inch beard / 7/8 inch spurs. A smaller bird by Iowa standards, however, he will tatse very good smoked.

Will use the last 2 weeks to try and fill the bow tag.

Good luck to all
