Bond Posted April 29, 2006 Report Share Posted April 29, 2006 Went hiking in a nature preserve close to our land and found some tracks. They looked like some kind of big predator but we didn't know what, so we put a trail cam out there. Turns out the tracks were just dogs (we aren't good at IDing tracks) - BUT look what else the cam picked up - Here it is cropped and blown up - There have been bear sightings in the area every now and then but this is the first picture that I know of. Also got this, does anyone know what it could be? - My guesses are Dog, Bear, or wild pig. But I really don't think it's any of those for sure. The other dogs I got pictures of have long tails. It looks kinda like a bear but it looks like it has hooves like a pig? Even if they aren't hooves, they still look way to skinny for a bear. Here's a cool picture of the area we were in - Edit: I should add that the mystery picture was 1 minute before the bear picture. It doesn't seem very likely that a hog and a bear and 2 dogs would all be in the area within 2 minutes, I still haven't made up my mind on what it is yet though. [/ QUOTE ] This time, all I did was reach as high as I could on the tree and lock it with a python lock. The tree was kinda leaning so it provided the perfect angle. Rottweilers have a bobbed tail like that. Annnnnd, if you look in the upper left picture of your bear picture, you can see the labradors high tailing it out of there! It's just that we got 4 different pictures of the same 2 labs. And I swear I can see dew claws(like a pig). But that's not very likely. There aren't supposed to be any dogs allowed in the sanctuary and both dogs(that you can see the necks of) have collars. No, I've never seen any bears on my property. A friend of mine was hunting on our neighbors land and saw a sow and a cub though. And I've heard a few second and third hand sightings of bears in the area. Well, it looks like the cams are going back out there to get a better picture of the bear and try to get a cougar too.
