Has this happened to anyone else??

I have worked at the same place for 18 years and worked my up to a coordinator's position. Late last year we got a new hot shot young management team. They are running the place into the ground and making demands on me and my employees that are near impossible to meet.

Its starting to affect my health...I hate to resign...i have never been out of work in my life but i may have to. My wife wants me to quit as she has a steady job so we could survive until i find another job.Is just seems a shame ...18 years down the tube.

Thanks for listening to me rant....I will try to keep you updated....plus any prayers concerning this would be appreciated.

Blessings

John

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

Job changes are always tough to make John. God knows I've had my share. Sometimes peace of mind is worth more than the job though.

Keep praying about it (I will too) and maybe the Lord will lead you into something better or help fix the problems where you are. wink.gif

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

I've been at my present job for almost 14 years. In that time I've weathered 3 superintendents, 2 principals (abooot to get the 3rd any day now), and abooot 5 school boards of various mixes. It's interesting and frustrating to see all the agendas that have come and gone.

I'm generally very happy with my job, especially with the present principal (who's abooot to retire in a month), but there were many times when I came close to leaving for another district.

I guess you have to weigh the pros and cons of the situation and make a decision that will make you happy, and that might not necessarily be the one that makes the most money.

Good luck with your decision spike. I'll pray on it for you.

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

One of the biggest factors in my reason for leaving my last job was because of the new management they were bringing in.

The wife left the same company about a month prior to my resignation, and she is so much happier where she is at now. It can really make a big difference in the home life.

Here is what I have learned in the 20 years of Air Force life and constantly changing supervisors or commanders that question productivity:

1. Change can be tough if not utilized effectively.

2. Provide black and white FACTS, not emotion to the new mgmt team. (i.e. "I have this # of employees who furnish this much output based on the data provided") Do not use info that starts with: "I think". Let the upstart team determine that. Stay to the facts and that's that.

3. My bottlenecks (slowdown) is caused by........(again facts, not emotion)

3. Ask them how WE can get better. A fresh set of eyes may help identify a better way vs someone who has been there forever. Also, turning the ball court over to them may realize (to them) that they do not know what is really going on. And then they may relax the attitude to what you are saying. If they make a proposed change and ask for an opinion, give your opinion and drop it. If they don't listen to it and make their own changes, support it. If it fails, it fails. Just keep your facts straight as the change goes along to suport why it failed or was successful. Never be afraid to steal a good idea.

A company can develop "norms" that are not conducive to good productivity. And if the folks have been there awhile, it makes productivity loss hard to see (because "that's the way it always has been"). Again, a fresh set of eyes can help. And asking their opinion on how-to can get a better way or open their eyes that they don't really know what's going on. Good luck. I've been there before.

properly aire your complaints to the superiors. let them know what you are thinking, and let them respond before you do anything.

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree...go straight to the top. They may beintimidating, but when it comes to the point you are considering quiting, then it's time to let 'er rip...

I did the same thing about a month ago........the big wigs come down from headquarters about twice a year, to fill us in on how things are rolling.......lately they've been pumping us up about what a terrific year 2005 was, and the run records and no OSHA recorables...and cost savings....etc..........they way they made it sound we had a banner year.........but when it came time for our bonuses, we only receieved a 1.2% out of a possible 4% ?!? mad.gif

I immediatly e-mailed the CEO of the company and ripped into him big time......I really didn't care at that point.......I told the wife when I got home, that I may not have a job when I go back that following Monday........

Well to make a long story short, he sent me a personal letter...to my home....and thanked me for my hard work, etc...and to let me know that my e-mail did not fall on deaf ears.......

A couple weeks later, when the big wigs were down again, they suprised us with an additional 1.8%.....and also voiced openly how some serious talks were gonna be held with our supervision to address the low moral amongst the hourly employees

So it does pay off.......and it feels good to get your frustrations off of your chest.........don't waste time with your supervisors....go straight to the top. wink.gif

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

Thanks for all the replies guys...I have went to the top with all this and they have the attitude that's it "our way or the highway". I have been fighting this since the first of the year along with my immediate supervisor and they wont listen to either one of us.

We have two coordinators...me and another guy I talked to him on the phone and hes done...hes not even coming back tomorrow... like most everyone else he has had enough.

My super would love to walk out but he is head over heals in debt and cant afford it but i think if it keeps up they may carry him out.

Hey thanks again for the input...I know that God has his hand in all of this and it will work out one way or another,

BTW....Clay i don't think they would get rid of someone for having an opinion....as long as its the same as theirs smirk.gif...oh and unfortunately we are not union.

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

This topic is of a great interest to me: I am just a knot head: My father busted his way through the union, and is a very respected man in the field of medicine: However this week I was denied a promotion on the basis of :" Sorry you're the first victim" and "It's my personal belief anyone in this position needs to be a state registered sanitarian" well folks I am not registered.....I spent the last 6 years teaching kids, and the last year working for the state I grew up in...now my boss says no promotion because I have not taken the test to become registered....well grievence is filed...scared would be an understatement, but I have a union supporting me: In my mind, I'd be happy to got 1 on 1 with the person not willing to promote mein a game of Jepardy, but that can't be done....When you truly feel your being walked on, you need to stand up for what you believe is right....IMHO: I'll let you all know how it turns out....thoughts and prayers are being accepted by me :-)

That's what I mean, if it's pushing SK to the brink of quitting anyways, might as well go for it.......plus I don't think they can fire a guy for having an opinion ?!?! crazy.gif But what do I know....I'm union...

[/ QUOTE ]

I understand what your saying Clay, and I would do the same if it were me. Thats just me, may seem stupid, but I would tell the owners of my former employer what I thought when they asked my opinion and often times even whn they didnt ask, they always said they respected my thoughts although they might not agree. I left that employment on good terms. They were never in question where I stood.

From what I understand some states, employers can let an employee go and give no reason whatsoever.

Spikekiller, if you are really to the brink of quitting you really have nothing to lose by letting them know your thoughts. jmo.

Re: Has this happened to anyone else??

I just wanted to give you guys an update...on Monday May 1 i went in and tried to work things out but i wound up resigning.

That same morning I faxed my resume out to several companies...the next day i got a call from one and set up an interview. This past Thursday i went for a second interview and was offered the job!

It is with a new Bobcat construction equipment dealership that is opening in my area. I am excited to get in on the ground level and to hopefully grow with the company. I will have a lot to learn and hopefully my 46 year brain can retain the info i need to learn.

Hey thanks for your prayers...and i could still use them as i am nervous at the thought of starting over but God has led me this far and i am sure He will continue to help me.

Thanks again and God bless

John

That shouldn't be a problem unless you're getting alzheimers..................................................or spending too much time here on Realtree forums. smirk.gif Naw, that shouldn't be a problem yet you only have 1127 posts. grin.gif

You're never too old to learn. Good luck in the new job. smile.gif
