Guest muskyman
Alright guys I need some advice.....I just planted my first food plot BioMaxx. The area is by a river bottom and has never had any crops. It was a mixture of swamp grass and weeds. We burned, fertilized, plowed, and re-plowed. I planted a few days ago as we are expecting steady rain and the weather is stable in the 60s. There still seems to be grass in the soon to be food plot. I would say no more than 25%. Should I Roundup the plot now to kill the remaining grass and weeds or wait unitl the BioMaxx is starting to come up. My concern is the grass will stunt the growth of the plot. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Tominator
Re: Food Plot Advice Whatever you do, don't roundup once your plot seed germinates, it will kill your food plot. Roundup bottle says you shouldn't spray once you plant, but I have in the past and it doesn't effect your seed too much. You might want to spray a grass killer now. I think the product Todd uses is Post.
Guest generallee
Re: Food Plot Advice hey tominator, the biomaxx product that muskyman is talking about comes round up ready. I myself am not sure what the best route would be, ive never planted anything like biomaxx, and usually do my weed eliminating before i plant, but your situation is different. Dont worry though, someone on here has an answer for you.

In that case, I'd spray with roundup before the weed grass gets too big.
dogdoc
Re: Food Plot Advice I'd wait until the biomax is a few inches tall. The reason is when you covered the biomax you probably covered a lot of weed and grass seed. If you wait that will give enough time for the unwanted seeds to germinate also--will save a few bucks on having to respray again a few weeks later. Don't worry about the competition right now--the soybeans will start producing enough nitrogen for the corn once the nodules get going. good luck todd
wtnhunt
Re: Food Plot Advice Welcome to the forums. I always rid my plots of potential competitive growth prior to planting. Would follow Dogdoc's advice here if I were you.
