Texan_Til_I_Die
Well, I've spent 10 days huntung the Texas rifle season so far. I've seen about 25 different bucks including 2 130 class 10 points (saw one of them for the 3rd time Saturday morning). Haven't pulled the trigger yet on anything except a doe, a spike, a turkey and a few yodel dogs. When I passed the big 10 point Saturday morning for the 3rd time, I was hoping to put a young friend of mine into the same spot Sunday and let him take the deer. Didn't work out too well. Sunday was real foggy and all he saw was a couple of 8 points. We've got a 20 inch 8 point with a 6 inch drop tine roaming around our east pasture (3000 acres or so in that pasture). I might give it a try over the Thanksgiving weekend - never killed a deer with a drop tine. We've also got a really ancient buck that's on a solid pattern. One of my buddies was 15 yards from him Saturday morning and got a good look. He's probably 8 or 9 years old, doesn't have any teeth left and likely won't make the winter. His horns at still impressive - about 24 inches wide with 5 or 6 inch bases - but he's only got 6 points (no eyeguards) and the G2's are only about 8 inches. I bet he was a stud when he was in his prime. If nothing else happens soon, I might go ahead and take him. Hope this wasn't too boring. Maybe someone has suggestions on what they would do? BTW - So far my only entry for the Deer Contest is a 4 point mule deer. I guess I should consider that too.

Gus
Re: Thinking out loud I think I would take the old buck, and then go after the drop tine Good luck
