GWSmith
Re: tips Probably the easiest way to learn is right in your livingroom! Try to imitate what you see other people doing on Videos or TV shows I like it because you can learn while on the job too! Nothing teaches you more than your mistakes in the field ...and be prepared to get up very early
MrWiggely
Re: tips make sure you sit very still and very quiet because them birds can see very very well, and hear just as good or better. Any sudden movement can spoil your hunt before you even see a turkey. Don't call too much. Over calling a turkey will often make the bird hang up and wait for the hen to come to him. How much is too much? Every situation is different and you will have to figure this out at the moment. Good luck. Wigs
borch
Re: tips First of all welcome to the site and this spring time tradition. Do some scouting to see where the turkey seem to like to hang out. It's much easier to call one in if your already in a place he wants to be anyways. Look for areas with scratching in the leaves, strut marks and tracks in the dirt and "J" shaped droppings. Make sure to pattern you gun to see how far you can reliably take a gobbler. You looking for at least 7 bone hits on a turkey head target. If you do a search here you'll find several you can print off. Generally shots should be 40 yeards or less. But many guns will not pattern densley enough to kill a bird out to 40 yards everytime. The movement thing has been covered. If you listen to the turkey video and you calls sound different don't worry too much. Just try to match the cadence. Pitch and tone are not really that important. Some of the worst callers I've ever heard were real live hen turkeys. Finally be safe and have fun.
