My Son's New Hampshire Bird!!

Recommended Posts

My 10 year old son Nick got his N.H. turkey this morning!!! I got almost the whole hunt on video (missed the kill shot though crazy.giffrown.gif ) and it's at the taxidermist right now.

We almost didn't even go out this morning because of heavy rain but it lightened up a little so we headed out. We quickly located two toms, got set up, and called for almost an hour before two very nice birds walked out from behind the stone wall and right towards the decoy. My son was going to shoot the first bird but he got scared and flew off. This had the other tom a little nervous and he stopped at about 40 yards out. It's a little longer shot then we would have liked, but Nick dropped him with one shot! grin.gif

It was a nice looking bird from a distance, but up close he was incredible! He weighed 20.5 lbs with matching 1.25" spurs and an 11.25" beard for a score of 68 points!!!

The biologists at the tagging station wanted pics of Nick and his bird and I'm researching the chance of this being a state record book bird. The NWTF's website has him tied for third place in the adult catagory for NH so I'm very excited and proud about the possibility of that happening!

Ok, I'm done bragging now, here are some pics:

Re: My Son\'s New Hampshire Bird!!

Tell your son congrats!! I was out also this moring in New Hampshire. I was able to stick it out for 2 hours in the light rain before the skys opened up and it just poored. I wanted to head back out after it lifted a little but noon time came before the rain ever thought of stopping enough to get out. Congratulations again.

Re: My Son\'s New Hampshire Bird!!

Nick says thanks for all the congratulations....he's still glowing from that hunt! (and so am I! LOL) Now he's eagerly awaiting the half mount to be returned.

I've said it on this board before, I can't wait to share that moment with my son (also 10).

It is great when it finally happens! I don't get nearly as excited when I shoot something as when he does. grin.gif Best of luck to your son!!
